The men's and women's fencing programs will compete at the OSU Duals on Sunday.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University fencing programs will begin the 2026-27 season in Columbus, Ohio, at The Ohio State University Duals on Sunday, Oct. 4.  Competition starts at 9 a.m., while the final bout is slated to start 3:50 p.m.  The OSU Duals is a team event and features Army West Point, Cleveland State, Denison, Georgia Tech, Ohio State, OSU's club team, Purdue and the Warriors.

Key returners for the Green and Gold include junior foilist Anabella Acurero Gonzalez (Valencia, Venezuela / Colegio de San Gabriel Arcangel), along with senior epeeists Reka Galfalvy (Budapest, Hungary / Vorosmarty) and Salma Abdrabou (Cairo, Egypt / Dar El Tarbiah IGCSE) on the women's side.

On the men's side, sophomore sabreist Gabriel Doumulon (Newtown, Conn.), sophomore foilist Lukas Tsao (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.), redshirt-senior epeeist Shuayb Dinkins (Kissimmee, Fla. / Lincoln Park / Celebration), sophomore foilist Finn McIsaac (West Bloomfield, Mich.) and redshirt-senior epeeist Sam Garrett (San Francisco, Calif. / San Francisco School of the Arts) are a few returners that head coach Andy Tulleners expects to have big seasons this year.

QUOTING COACH TULLENERS
"This weekend we want to allow our freshmen to understand the NCAA style of events.  We want to see how they work through the stress of their first competition so we can identify key improvement or growth areas for future events.  It has been very enjoyable to watch how the team is blending together with the new fencers and upperclassmen.  It doesn't seem like the freshmen are "new" to the team which has created great energy.  In terms of the new fencers, they are coming along very well.  There is a lot of good intensity and focus in training and they are very supportive of everyone around them.  Training as a whole has been very good to start the year.  We have a great group that constructively pushes each other forward."
