Softball To Host Hitting Camp and Two Skills Camps

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University softball program will host three days of camps this January and February starting with the Hitting Camp on Sunday, Jan 18.  There will also be two Skill Camps (Jan. 25 and Feb. 1).

Hitting Camp (grades 4-12)

The focus for this camp will include participants receiving instruction on hitting and bunting techniques with an opportunity to practice the techniques through drills and station work.  Campers will also get an opportunity to practice their skills through machine work.

Please bring a bat (with your name on it), a helmet and indoor shoes.

Time:  9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Cost:  $70

10 or more players - $60.00 per person

Skills Camp (Grades 6-12 - graduating in 2026 through 2032)

The Skills Camp will feature both hitting and defensive sessions.  Participants can register for either January 25 or February 1.  The camp will be held in our indoor facility, plus our gyms in the Matthaei.  Please make sure you bring turf shoes or running shoes and your own lunch as lunch WILL NOT be provided.

Hitting Session:  9:30 a.m. – 11 a.m.

During this section you will be able to focus on offense which will include instruction on hitting concepts, offensive approach, along with Tee drills, front toss and machine work.

Lunch and Q&A with the WSU Softball Team -- 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Defensive Session:  12 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.

During this section you will be able to focus on defensive which will include ground ball work, infield/outfield/pitching/catching work along with situational based defense at the end.

The first hour of the defensive session campers will split up into infield, outfield and pitchers and catchers.

If your primary position is pitching or catching, you will have an opportunity to work with our pitching coach during the defensive session.  You will then be able to work on your fielding fundamentals in your secondary position during the situational portion.

Campers need to bring a bat, helmet, glove, indoor shoes, and water bottle (there will be refill stations available).  Please make sure to bring your own lunch.

Cost:  $80 per person
