Softball To Host Home Run Derby In October

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University softball program will host its annual Home Run Derby on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at Gary L. Bryce Field starting at 10 a.m.

This year's format features the 2025-26 Wayne State Softball squad being divided into three fundraising groups.

313 Bomb Squad: Maddie Hool, Sydney Long, Addison Cosgrove, Brooklyn Bunch, Marin McCullough, and Kyra Shadduck

Big Hittie Committee: Molly Hool, Hayden Batton, Hunter Near, Lexi Mielke, Ella Vinco, and Abby Barnes

Balls Over The Walls: Mia Hool, Kennedy Cole, Kate DeWitt, Elly Koopman, Julia Sandles, and Ellery Garver

Donors can donate to any "Team" and designate to any Student-Athlete if they choose to. To designate a gift to a certain student-athlete, please list the student-athlete's name in the "In Honor of" section of the checkout process.

Each student-athlete will be given 10 swings, and for every $20 each student-athlete raises over and above their individual goal, they will earn an additional pitch that, should they hit a Home Run, will count as two Home Runs towards their competition total.

The first 30 minutes (10 a.m.-10:30 a.m.) of the 2025 Wayne State Softball Home Run Derby will be designated to ANY WSU Faculty/Staff who would like to come out and participate by way of "buying" swings. Please see the below gift amounts and their corresponding number of swings:

$20 for 5 swings
$5 for 1 swing

Past Home Run Derby's have directly benefited WSU Softball by providing financial support for team travel expenses (hotels, transportation, meals, etc.) along with the purchase of new uniforms and equipment.
