Kayla Giroux and Kayla Dulgar Garner All-American Recognition

Wayne State has two All-Americans in the same season for the first time in program history.

DETROIT -- For the first time ever, the Wayne State University volleyball program has a pair of All-Americans in the same season.  Wednesday afternoon, senior middle blocker Kayla Giroux (Flat Rock, Mich.) was crowned a First Team All-American by both the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA).  Her teammate, junior setter Kayla Dulgar (Warsaw, Ohio / River View), received an AVCA Honorable Mention nod.

The AVCA's All-Americans include 42 players—14 on the first, second, and third teams—and 117 honorable mention selections, while the D2CCA's honors consist of 21 members, seven apiece for the first, second and third teams.

An AVCA Second Team All-American a season ago, Giroux is both the first two-time All-American and first First Team All-American in program history.  Among the best in the country this year, the veteran ranks 10th in hitting percentage (.391), 19th in points per set (4.68), 19th in total kills (447), 26th in kills per set (3.96), 33rd in total blocks (124), and 45th in blocks per set (1.10).  For the program's single-season record book, Giroux's 2025 campaign includes the second-best mark in hitting efficiency (owns first and third place), seventh in kills per set and tied-for-ninth in kills.  On the Warriors' career charts, Giroux is slotted first in hitting percentage (.372), second in kills (1,425), fourth in block assists (349), fifth in total stops (417), seventh in kills per set (3.26), and ninth in solo blocks (68).

"Kayla Giroux is an elite talent who impacted the court in many ways," said head coach Tim Koth.  "She could beat teams with her offense and defensive play.  She has achieved many individual honors in her career, but would give them all up for the team to win a championship ... that is the mark of a true All-American.  I'm thrilled we got that for her."

Running point for Wayne State's offensive attack, Dulgar's game has only improved year after year.  An Honorable Mention All-GLIAC honoree as a freshman, the setter was named Second Team All-GLIAC a season ago before First Team All-GLIAC recognition this fall.  WSU's first ever GLIAC Setter of the Year is also the program's first ever All-American setter.  Nationally, Dulgar is 19th in total assists (1,190) and 21st in assists per set (10.53).  In the Warriors' record book, those outputs are good for eighth and fifth, respectively.  With a season to play, the Ohio native is fourth in assists per set for a career (10.16) and fifth for total helpers (3,313).

"Kayla Dulgar is just a fierce competitor," said Koth.  "She not only was the best setter in the GLIAC, but one of the best in the country this year.  Another player who couldn't care less about individual successes and would do anything for the team to succeed.  I'm glad she was on our side!  She truly deserves the recognition."

Team wise, because of the efforts of those two and their 16 teammates, the 2025 squad will go down as one of the best in school history.  This past fall, Wayne State collected 24 victories (24-6) for the first time since 1997, claimed a share of the GLIAC Regular-Season Championship for the first instance in 44 years and won the GLIAC Tournament for the first time in program history.  The Warriors then made their fourth-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament (2021, 1994, 1987) and won two sets on that stage for just the third time (2021, 1987).
