DETROIT -- Four members of the 2025 Wayne State University volleyball team have been recognized with Academic All-District honors by College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA).
Receiving CSC Academic All-District honors were senior
Kayla Giroux (Flat Rock, Mich.), junior
Kayla Dulgar (Warsaw, Ohio / River View), junior
Paige Giehtbrock (Clarkston, Mich. [Rider]) and senior
Abby Macalaguim (Chula Vista, Calif. / Eastlake [Saint Anselm]).
Carrying a 3.98 cumulative GPA in Global Supply Chain Management and set to graduate in 3.5 years,
Kayla Giroux just became the first two-time All-American in program history (first ever First Teamer). Also Wayne State volleyball's first CSC Academic All-American (Second Team) a season ago, Giroux is well on her way to being a two-time honoree for that award as well. Among the best in the country this year, the three-time Academic All-District performer ranked 10th in hitting percentage (.391), 19th in points per set (4.68), 20th in total kills (447), 26th in kills per set (3.96), 33rd in total blocks (124), and 45th in blocks per set (1.10). For the program's single-season record book, Giroux's 2025 campaign includes the second-best mark in hitting efficiency (owns first and third place), seventh in kills per set and tied-for-ninth in kills. On the Warriors' career charts, the middle blocker is slotted first in hitting percentage (.372), second in kills (1,425), fourth in block assists (349), fifth in total stops (417), seventh in kills per set (3.26), and ninth in solo blocks (68).
Kayla Dulgar, the program's first All-American setter (Honorable Mention) and now two-time Academic All-District, boasts a 3.92 cume GPA in Psychology. Running point for Wayne State's offensive attack, Dulgar's game has only improved year after year. An Honorable Mention All-GLIAC honoree as a freshman, the setter was named Second Team All-GLIAC a season ago before First Team All-GLIAC recognition this fall. WSU's first ever GLIAC Setter of the Year is 19th nationally in total assists (1,190) and 21st in assists per set (10.53). In the Warriors' record book, those outputs are good for eighth and fifth, respectively. With a season to play, the Ohio native is fourth in assists per set for a career (10.16) and fifth for total helpers (3,313).
After transferring over from Rider with a 3.79 career GPA in Health Sciences,
Paige Giehtbrock turned into Wayne State's primary attacker on the outside. Giehtbrock racked up a team-leading 1,007 total attacks, which included 318 kills and 146 errors for a .171 hitting percentage. The first-year Warrior also accounted for 298 digs, which was tied-for-second on the team, and 50 total blocks, tied-for-fourth. Showing her versatility on both sides of the ball, Giehtbrock registered eight double-doubles (kills and digs), nearly as many as she'd had the two previous seasons combined (10). Her best effort may have come at home against Parkside on Oct. 10 with 20 kills (three off career high) and a personal-best 22 digs.
Joining Giehtbrock as a first-year transfer, but playing in her senior season, was setter
Abby Macalaguim. Macalaguim appeared in all 30 of the team's matches with one start, Sept. 27 at Ferris State. In those 30 outings, the California native finished with 298 digs, tied with Giehtbrock for second on the squad, and 38 service aces, second to Dulgar's 40. Half of those 30 contests saw Macalaguim reach at least 10 digs, including a career-high 24 on Nov. 23 when Wayne State captured the first GLIAC Tournament Championship in program history, 3-1 over the four-time defending champion Ferris State.
Academic All-District honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Student-athletes selected as CSC Academic All-America finalists are denoted with an asterisk and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on Jan. 13, 2026.
