Women's Indoor Track & Field Concludes Regular-Season At SVSU Tune-Up

WSU now prepares for the conference championships on March 1-2.

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's indoor track & field squad concluded its regular-season slate on Friday by competing in the SVSU Tune-Up.

"We talked before the meet about raising our level of intensity and focus, and not waiting for the GLIAC meet and then hoping we can do that. The team did an exceptional job of bringing attention to detail, competitiveness, and positive energy to the Tune-Up, and we came away with some great performances.

"Some of our freshmen really led the way for the team, which was awesome to see. Ania Toboy had a huge personal record in shot put, going over 11 meters and then over 12 meters for the first time. Ava Steinhebel competed really well with a new PR in high jump and got the win, and Megan Zahnow broke nine seconds for the first time in the 60 hurdles.

Reagan Justice barely missed yet another school record in the mile with a 4:57, and Taylor Hopkins dipped under 5 minutes for the first time as well. Annalee Misch also had a huge PR in the mile, as did Natalie Davies in the 3K. Sasha-Gay Thompson and Elyse Miller getting wins in the 200- and 60-meter dashes were just off of their PRs and competed well.

"Our 400- and 800-meter crew stepped up as well, with Rachel Felstow getting a dramatic win and PR in the 800 and Annalise Elliott setting a big PR, and Kenzie Wellner and Tianna Bennett taking chunks of time off of their 400m records. Kenzie set a PR in the 60 hurdles as well, and Tianna came back in the 200 with a PR. Renae Kutcha, Nicole Warren, and Alex Harmer had very solid days as well.

"We can't wait to get this group back to the SVSU track next weekend. They're capable of doing tremendous things at the GLIAC Championships."
