Women's Indoor Track & Field Places Second At GLIAC Championships

WSU set a school-record with 88 points.

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's indoor track and field squad recorded a school-record 66 points on day two of the 2025 GLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships to finish with a school-best mark of 88 points over the two-day event. The previous mark of 81 points was set two years ago. The 88 points placed the Warriors second behind Grand Valley State. The second-place finish by WSU betters the third-place finish in 2022.

QUOTING COACH LOFDAHL
"This weekend was kind of a measuring stick for the program, and I feel like we measured up very well. The GLIAC is always incredibly competitive in track and field, and to finish in the runner-up spot was an excellent result for us.

"There were so many highlights and I believe we had 19 different people contribute to the 88-point total. Truly a team effort. Reagan Justice was tremendous in earning her first indoor conference title in the 5K, and came back with a gutsy 3K effort. Avery Wilson has been working toward the 400-meter school record for a while and it was great to see her get it. Hanne Bastiaansen ran a fantastic 200 final to earn her second GLIAC victory, and the 200 was a monster event with the Warriors having half of the finals qualifiers. Great meet for Elyse Miller, Sasha-Gay Thompson, and Rachel Overgaard as well.

"Emily Gordon made a great move to try and win the 800, and had an excellent runner-up finish. Renae Kutcha ran two PRs in the 400 on consecutive days, great meet for her. Nicole Warren placed in both long jump and triple jump, and Olivia Findlay had a really nice fourth-place finish in high jump. Taylor Hopkins was tremendous with three big efforts, and Annalee Misch had a massive PR to take sixth in the 5K. Both of our relay teams were gutsy and clinched tough podium finishes -- and 14 huge points between them -- with Kenzie Wellner contributing to both the DMR and 4x400.

"I could go on, and we as a coaching staff are truly proud of the entire team. This has been the best indoor track season in WSU history, and that is a tribute to our outstanding coaches and student-athletes."
