GLIAC -- Graduate student
Anais Ruyssen (Nantes, France / Enfants-Nantais (Keiser)) of the Wayne State University women's tennis team, a 2024-25 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Second Team Academic All-American, received the third straight GLIAC Commissioner's Award of her career on Wednesday.
This award honors student-athletes who demonstrate a high level of academic achievement and athletic performance. Recipients must be junior, senior, or graduate-level student-athletes. The awards are bestowed after the fall, winter and spring athletic seasons to six female and six male student-athletes. All grade-point averages are based on a 4.0 scale.
Ruyssen became just the third Warrior in the 18-year history of the GLIAC Commissioner's Award to be a three-time recipient joining Karter Fitzpatrick (baseball, 2022-24) and Jordan Fox (women's swimming, 2022-24). Ruyssen, who just earned her third consecutive CSC Academic All-America honor (Third Team in 2023 and First Team in 2024), became the first three-time GLIAC Player of the Year in at least the last 25 years this spring having won the award in 2022, 2024 and 2025.
Despite playing both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles all four years at WSU, Ruyssen ranks third in program history with 95 doubles wins and is tied-for-fourth with 84 singles victories. She played in 114 career singles matches (84-30 record) and 136 career doubles matches (95-41 record) during her WSU career.
Ruyssen, who was selected as the 2025 ITA Midwest Senior Player of the Year, helped the Warriors to three straight NCAA quarterfinal appearances (the first in program history). She guided WSU to the No. 1 ranking in the Midwest Region at the end of the season, along with being ranked 10th in singles and fifth in doubles. Academically, Ruyssen earned a bachelor's degree in management (3.78 GPA), and is working on her MBA (3.50 GPA).
