Volleyball Recognized with AVCA Team Academic Award For 10th Straight Year

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University volleyball program has been recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for its academic success during the 2024 season with the AVCA Team Academic Award sponsored by INTENT.  The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

As a team, Wayne State posted a 3.647 cumulative GPA during this past academic year.  WSU has been recognized with the accolade for 10 straight seasons and has earned the award in 12 of the last 13 years.

A record number of volleyball programs earned the AVCA Team Academic Award sponsored by INTENT as 1,450 collegiate and high school volleyball programs maintained a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale), to earn the award for their classroom excellence during the recently completed academic year.

"It is very exciting to see that the record-setting, on-court successes during the 2024-25 season have extended to the classroom," says AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon.  "The fact that more programs earned the Team Academic Award than ever before is evidence of how committed our coaches are when it comes to helping their players reach their goals as both students and athletes."
