Baseball Adds Two Transfer Position Players

DETROIT -- Wayne State University head baseball coach Ryan Kelley, who began his 18th season guiding the Warriors earlier this month, has added two transfers position players to the 2026 squad.  Those two are infielder Nick Sandiha, Jr. (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Brother Rice [Macomb C.C.]) and outfielder Alfredo Velazquez (Livonia, Mich. / Brother Rice [Michigan]).

2025:  Appeared in 44 games for Macomb Community College, making 40 starts ... batted .401 (57-for-142) with 44 runs scored, nine doubles, one triple and six home runs ... drove in 44 runs and slugged .606 ... recorded 15 walks to 19 strikeouts for a .445 on-base percentage ... totaled 19 stolen bases ... notched a .983 fielding percentage (70 PO, 48 A, 2 E) ... posted a season-high six putouts in a win over Owens CC (April 29) ... had four fielding assists in a game three times ... credited with 15 multiple-hit games, including a 5-for-6 performance with five runs scored in a win over Cornerstone JV (April 14) ... selected to the NJCAA Region XII Division II All-Region Team, after earning All-MCCAA recognition and First Team All-MCCAA Eastern Conference accolades ... received Academic All-MCCAA honors.

2024:  Started all 29 games played for Madonna ... batted .406 (41-for-101) with 22 runs scored, nine doubles, one triple and one home run ... drove in 25 runs, while slugging .545 ... recorded 12 walks to 14 strikeouts for a .467 on-base percentage ... garnered seven stolen bases and notched a .940 fielding percentage (22 PO, 41 A , 4 E) ... credited with season-highs in both putouts (4) and assists (4) in a win at Michigan Dearborn (April 7) ... went 2-for-3 with three RBI, including a home run in win at Michigan Dearborn (April 6) ... drove in a season-high five runs the next day in a game one victory over UMD ... lone triple came at Aquinas on March 16 ... was walked twice in a game three times.

High School:  A 2023 graduate of Brother Rice High School ... was a two-year letterwinner for coach Bob Riker ... helped BRHS to a district title as a junior.

Personal:  Full name -- Nicholas J. Sandiha, Jr. ... born on January 19, 2005, in West Bloomfield, Mich. ... son of Nick and Sandi Sandiha ... has two younger brothers, Lucas and Jacob ... plans to major in Marketing ... last name is pronounced SAN-di-ha.

2025:  Appeared in seven games for the Michigan Wolverines, scoring one run at Long Beach State (Feb. 28) ... notched two at bats vs. Villanova (Feb. 16), and at Ohio State (May 3) .. recorded fielding putouts vs. Villanova and at Nebraska (May 9) ... received Academic All-Big Ten recognition for Spring 2025.

2024:  Made 31 appearances, including one start for the Wolverines ... recorded two hits in 17 at bats, with seven runs scored ... hits came at Toledo (April 16) and vs. Long Beach State (April 27) ... notched walks at Penn State (March 23) and vs. Long Beach State (April 27) ... stole a base on May 24 vs. Penn State ... made four appearances on the mound for the Wolverines compiling an 0-1 record in 3.2 innings with two strikeouts (at UC-Irvine [March 2], and at Coastal Carolina [March 9]).
