Men's Basketball Announces 2025-26 Schedule

DETROIT -- Fourth-year Wayne State University men's basketball head coach Bryan Smothers has announced the squad's 2025-26 schedule which features 20 GLIAC contests, plus five home non-conference games, along with non-league road trips to Findlay and Tiffin.

"This year's schedule starts off with us having a home exhibition game vs. Talladega University," stated Smothers.  "That game is a part of the Hoops and Culture event we are hosting at the Wayne State Fieldhouse on October 30th.  This will be the first time we have had an home exhibition game open to the public since I have been head coach.

"We also have five of our seven non-conference games at home, which is important so that our fans and supporters get many opportunities to support our program.  We look forward to having our fans come out and help us make the Fieldhouse a difficult place for our opponents.

"Conference play will be slightly different this year as some of the travel partners have changed from years past.  For example, starting the new year at SVSU then traveling up to LSSU is a different arrangement than we are used to.  Before, SVSU was a standalone game and the LSSU trip was a part of our road trip to Ferris State.  Some of the logistics have changed but the goals are the same, win as many as you can on the road, and protect your home court in order to be in position for a regular-season championship and seedings.  Our February home slate will also be a key to the overall success of the season.

As Coach Smothers mentioned above the Wayne State University Fieldhouse will be the host site for four exhibition games on Thursday, Oct. 30th.  The complete schedule for the Hoops and Culture event will be released soon.

The regular-season campaign for the Warriors begins with home non-conference tilts vs. Michigan Dearborn (Nov. 14 at 4 p.m.) and Ashland (Nov. 16 at 2 p.m.).

WSU will play twice before the Thanksgiving holiday hosting Northwood (Nov. 22 at 3 p.m.), before visiting the Findlay Oilers (Nov. 25 at 7:30 p.m.).

December begins with the first two GLIAC games - at Purdue Northwest (Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. CT), and entertaining Ferris State (Dec. 6 at 3 p.m.).

Wayne State concludes its non-league slate with a trio of games - Dec. 10 at Tiffin (6 p.m.), Dec. 13 at home vs. Lewis (2 p.m.), and Dec. 20 at home vs. Redeemer (3 p.m.).

The GLIAC schedule resumes with contests at Saginaw Valley State (Jan. 1 at 7:30 p.m.) and Lake Superior State (Jan. 3 at 3 p.m.).

After a road trip to Grand Valley State and Davenport (Jan. 8-10), the Warriors will host Parkside and Roosevelt (Jan. 15-17).  A U.P. trip to Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan (Jan. 22-24) precedes another split weekend with PNW visiting the WSU Fieldhouse on Jan. 29, before WSU travels to Big Rapids on Jan. 31.

Six of the final eight regular-season contests will be at the Fieldhouse starting with DU and GVSU (Feb. 5-7), followed by NMU and MTU (Feb. 12-14).

Road contests at Roosevelt (Feb. 19) and Parkside (Feb. 21) take place before the final weekend of regular-season play when LSSU (Feb. 26) and SVSU (Feb. 28) come to Motown.

The GLIAC tournament quarterfinals are slated for Wednesday, March 4 with the semifinals and finals scheduled for March 7-8.
