Hoops and Culture Events Scheduled for Oct. 29-31

DETROIT -- The Horatio Williams Foundation in conjunction with the Wayne State University Department of Athletics will be hosting the inaugural Hoops and Culture event October 29-31.

The tournament festivities begin with a Welcome Reception followed by a Wellness Event on Wednesday evening (Oct. 29) powered by Detroit Medical Center.

Thursday's (Oct. 30) activities commence with high school students arriving for the HBCU Resource Fair.  The doors to the WSU Fieldhouse will open at 11 a.m. to the general public for the four games of the inaugural Hoops and Culture event.  This day's events are powered by Amazon.

Noon -- Wilberforce vs. Grand Valley State
2:30 p.m. -- Wayne State vs. Talladega
5:00 p.m. -- Central State vs. Detroit Mercy
7:30 p.m. -- Tuskegee vs. Eastern Michigan

One ticket will allow you to see all four games.  Tickets can be purchased in advance for $20 (+ fees) by clicking here.

The final day of events (Friday, Oct. 31), powered by the Dan Gilbert Family Foundation, will take place at the WSU Fieldhouse beginning with an EYL (Earn Your Leisure) Book Signing from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., followed by a Trade School Resource Fair and Certifications.  A Panel Discussion "Pathways and Purpose" will commence at noon moderated by Earn Your Leisure featuring topics such as Pathways in business and sports; overcoming adversity and societal pressure; choosing a career, not a job; and networking and collaboration.

A Networking Mixer will be held from 1:15 p.m. until 2 p.m. with an event wrap-up and closing remarks to conclude the first-ever Hoops and Culture event.
