Will Lowery Named NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week

Lowery threw Wayne State's first nine-inning no-hitter since 2019 last Friday at Parkside.

DETROIT -- Recognition for Will Lowery (Grosse Ile, Mich. [Kalamazoo Valley C.C.]) and his nine-inning no-hitter at Parkside last Friday continued to roll in on Thursday afternoon as he was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) National Pitcher of the Week.

In Wayne State's first nine-inning no-hitter since 2019 and just the second in the previous 22 years, Lowery improved to an unblemished 5-0 on the season following 119 total pitches and a 10-1 GLIAC victory in Kenosha, Wis.  He surrendered one unearned run, walked only one Ranger and struck out 10 others while facing just three batters over the minimum.

Two Warriors that received this honor most recently were Karter Fitzpatrick (LINK) and Griffin Kilander (LINK), both of which were bestowed during the 2024 season.  Kilander's distinction came following a complete game, one-hitter against Purdue Northwest on March 14, 2024 with 14 strikeouts and no walks.  As for Fitzpatrick, WSU's all-time winningest pitcher, he tossed a seven-inning perfect game on May 4, 2024, also against the Pride, with seven strikeouts and only 64 pitches.

Getting back to Lowery, the first-year Warrior ranks third in all of Division II for WHIP (0.68), fourth in fewest hits allowed per nine innings (4.35), 11th in ERA (1.45), 24th in pitching victories (five), 38th in fewest walks allowed per nine innings (1.74), and 44th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.33).  At 5-0 overall, the first-year Warrior has 26 strikeouts to only six walks through 31 innings pitched and a batting average against of just .142.

Lowery and his teammates will remain on the road this Friday through Sunday for a four-game series at Davenport (PREVIEW).  The Panthers, the defending GLIAC Regular Season and Tournament Champions, ended Wayne State's season on the final day of the 2025 GLIAC Tournament back in May.
