Klaus Selected as GLIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week

DETROIT -- Luis Klaus (Brühl, Germany / Archbishop's St. Ursula gymnasium [TH Köln]) of the Wayne State University men's tennis team has been selected as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week for the first time this season, as announced by the league office.

Klaus receives the honor after assisting WSU to wins over No. 23-ranked Tiffin University (5-2), Hillsdale College (6-1), and No. 5-ranked Division 3 Case Western Reserve University (5-2).  Against TU, the graduate student posted a 6-2, 6-7 (7-9), 6-4 triumph in the No. 2 singles position and a 6-4 doubles win at the top flight with Harry Forsyth (Wamberal, New South Wales, Australia / The McDonald College [Mississippi College]).  Klaus nabbed another singles win at the No. 2 slot at Hillsdale, posting a 6-4, 6-1 victory, while earning a 6-4 win in doubles with Forsyth.  During the battle with the Spartans, the Wayne State student-athlete earned a 7-5, 6-3 win in singles.  Klaus improved his singles record to an unblemished 8-0, including a 7-0 mark at the No. 2 position.

The men's tennis team will next be in action on Wednesday, March 11, against St. Thomas Aquinas.
