Fencing Ready for NCAA Midwest Regionals

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's and women's fencing teams will travel to Cleveland State University for the NCAA Midwest Regionals on Sunday, March 8, at the Wolstein Center.

Including the Green and Gold, there are a total of eight teams in the Midwest Region.  Those eight are Cleveland State, Denison University (women's only), the University of Detroit Mercy, Lawrence University, Northwestern University (women's only), the University of Notre Dame, The Ohio State University, and Wayne State.

The women's portion of the event will begin at 9:00 AM, with the men's scheduled to start at noon.

LAST TIME OUT
Both squads saw success at the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference (CCFC) Championships.  On the men's side, WSU placed second overall, including a second-place finish in the foil, a third-place finish in the epee, and tied-for-third in the sabre.  The women's team finished fourth, placing second in the foil, third in the epee, and sixth in the sabre.

Individually, the men's fencing team had five student-athletes earn medals, while the women's squad earned four.

WEEKEND OUTLOOK
Wayne State has 15 student-athletes that will compete on Sunday, including five on the women's side and 10 for the men.
