Lohr Selected GLIAC Coach of the Year; Ferguson, Lutchka and Thompson Voted First Team All-GLIAC

Ferguson and Thompson also earned All-Defensive Team recognition.

DETROIT -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) released its 2025-26 women's basketball All-GLIAC teams and three Warriors were selected to the All-GLIAC First Team, with two of those also receiving GLIAC All-Defensive Team accolades.  Head Coach Carrie Lohr was voted GLIAC Coach of the Year for the second time.

This marks just the second time in program history, WSU had three First Team All-GLIAC selections.  The previous instance was 1980-81 when Liz O'Brien, Stephanie Stone and Monice Thomas were all honored after the Tartars compiled a 13-1 mark to win the GLIAC regular-season title.

Junior guard McKenna Ferguson (Grandville, Mich. / Byron Center), graduate student forward Gabi Lutchka (Grass Lake, Mich.) and senior forward Taylor Thompson (Grand Blanc, Mich.) were all voted to the All-GLIAC First Team.  Both Ferguson and Thompson also garnered GLIAC All-Defensive Team recognition.

Ferguson finished second in the GLIAC in three-point percentage (.402 / 33-of-82) during conference play, while ranking fourth in scoring (16.5 PPG), sixth in both steals (45 / 2.25 PG) and field goal percentage (.475 / 103-of-217), eighth in free throw percentage (.818 / 90-of-110), tied-for-10th in three-pointers made per game (1.65), and 17th in assists (51 / 2.55 PG).  Only one person in the top 10 in free throw percentage had more makes.

Lutchka led the GLIAC in three-point percentage (.491 / 52-of-106) in league contests, ranked second in field goal percentage (.543 / 120-of-221), third in both scoring (16.6 PPG) and three-pointers made per game (2.6), eighth in steals (35 / 1.75 PG), 16th i rebounds per game (5.9), tied-for-17th in blocks (11 / 0.55 PG), and 18th in assists (50 / 2.5 PG).

Thompson finished fourth in league field goal percentage (.498 / 119-of-239), fifth in both rebounds per game (7.6) and assist/turnover ratio (1.66), sixth in scoring (15.3 PPG), eighth in assists (68 / 3.4 PG), 13th in both free throw percentage (.729 / 62-of-85) and blocked shots (13 / 0.65 PG), and tied-for-15th in steals (30 / 1.5).

Lohr, who was selected as GLIAC Coach of the Year for the second time in her illustrious career at WSU (the first was in 2012-13), guided the Warriors to a 17-3 conference record this year, along with a 22-6 overall mark during the regular season while facing the 11th-toughest schedule nationally.  She reached the 250 career win plateau at WSU with the regular-season finale triumph over Saginaw Valley on Feb. 28.

Even though this year's squad had to replace two starters, including Second Team All-Midwest Region selection Shea Tripp, Wayne State was the only school to defeat Grand Valley State during the regular season, following a one-point setback in Allendale.  The 2025-26 Warriors went 12-0 at home, while recording a 10-6 record away from Motown.

This year's Wayne State squad led the GLIAC in league scoring (79.8 PPG), field goal percentage (.483), three-point percentage (.384) and defensive rebounds per conference contest (29.0), while ranking second in field goal percentage defense (.378), blocked shots (3.70 PG) and assists (18.3 PG), and third in both free throw percentage (.774) and rebounding margin (+4.1).

In terms of overall stats during the regular season, the Warriors were third in scoring (77.2 PPG), first in field goal percentage (.462), second in three-point percentage (.367) and assists (17.0), fourth in rebounding (38.7 RPG), blocked shots (3.6) and steals (9.8), and fifth in free throw percentage (.742).

This is the sixth time WSU has had the GLIAC Women's Basketball Coach of the Year joining Linda Makowski (1977-78 and 1979-80), Rita Jean Horkey (1980-81) and co-recipient Diane Wisnewski in 1994-95.
