Philip Miller Garners GLIAC Pitcher of the Week Recognition

The senior left-hander teamed up with Evan Langlois for a combined no-hitter on Saturday against Purdue Northwest.

DETROIT -- Senior left-handed pitcher Philip Miller (Flat Rock, Mich. / Woodhaven [Schoolcraft C.C. / Tusculum]) of the Wayne State University baseball team was named GLIAC Pitcher of the Week for the first time in his career on Monday, as announced by the conference office.

Miller made two appearances out of the bullpen last week for a total of seven innings pitched in which he gave up just one earned run on one hit for a 1.29 ERA with nine strikeouts, only one walk and a .045 batting average against.

Five of those seven frames worked came on Saturday in Wayne State's 3-0 win over Purdue Northwest and were of the no-hit variety as he teamed up with starter and high school teammate Evan Langlois (Brownstown, Mich. / Woodhaven) for the Warriors' second no-hitter of the season and third in as many campaigns.  Langlois and Miller, who improved to 5-0 on the season following just 53 pitches, secured WSU's first combined no-no since 2019.

Philip's other appearance included two innings at home against Hillsdale on Tuesday.  First out of the bullpen that day as well, Miller surrendered one earned run on one hit with 39 pitches, one free pass and three punchouts.

Miller and his teammates will take a break from league play this week as they travel to Rollins College of the Sunshine State Conference for a four-game series.  The Warriors and Tars will first do battle at 3 p.m. on Friday, Saturday's doubleheader begins at 12 p.m. and Sunday's finale will commence at noon as well.
