WSU Recognizes Top Student-Athletes At Fourth Annual Golden W's

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University Department of Athletics honored all Warrior student-athletes during the Fourth Annual Golden W's held last evening at the Masonic Temple in downtown Detroit.

Eleven (11) Deans' Award winners were also recognized for having the highest cumulative grade-point average among all student-athletes in that particular college:

Mike Ilitch School of Business - Redshirt senior men's golf student-athlete Shawn Sehra (Windsor, Ont. / Academy 21 [Xavier]) is the 2025-26 Deans' Award recipient from the Mike Ilitch School of Business.  A Finance major, Sehra has earned a 4.00 term GPA all five semesters at WSU.  He will be a two-time GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team selection and was named an Allstate NACDA Good Works Team nominee earlier this semester for his community service work.  Sehra will be a three-year D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award honoree.  On the course, Sehra has played over 25 rounds for the Green and Gold and was the medalist during the 2024-25 campaign at the HawksHead Invitational.

College of Education - Ethan Gates (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / Lakeview), a redshirt junior on the football team was selected to receive the Deans' Award from the College of Education for the 2025-26 academic year.  The Health & Physical Education Teaching major has earned Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) accolades all seven semesters with a perfect 4.00 term GPA four times.  He was an inductee into WSU's inaugural (2024-25) Chi Alpha Sigma Athlete Honor Society class.  A three-time member of the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team, Gates received membership into the National Football Foundation's Hampshire Honor Society this spring.  On the field, he has appeared in 25 contests in three seasons with the Green and Gold, making 10 starts (nine at right tackle, and one at left tackle).  He played every offensive snap in six games this past fall.

James and Patricia Anderson College of Engineering - Senior baseball infielder Tony Hatzigeorgiou (Oxford, Mich.)  is the 2025-26 Deans' Award honoree from the James and Patricia Anderson College of Engineering.  A Biomedical Engineering major, he has been on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) all seven semesters and maintains a 3.839 cumulative GPA.  The 2023 GLIAC Freshman of the Year, Hatzigeorgiou was also named to the 2023 GLIAC All-Tournament Team.  He will be a three-year member of the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team as well as a three-year recipient of the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award.  On the diamond, Hatzigeorgiou has started over 160 games with 31 doubles, eight home runs and 94 RBI.

College of Fine, Performing, and Communication Arts - Senior distance swimmer Diana Muccioli (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich. / Grosse Pointe North) is the recipient of the Deans' Award from the College of Fine, Performing, and Communication Arts for the 2025-26 academic year.  A Design major with a 3.88 cumulative GPA, Muccioli has achieved Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) status all seven semesters, including two times with a perfect 4.00 term GPA.  She was an inductee into WSU's inaugural (2024-25) Chi Alpha Sigma Athlete Honor Society class.  A two-year CSCAA Individual Scholar All-American, Muccioli competed all 39 meets during her four seasons and earned Second Team All-GLIAC recognition this past February with a runner-up finish in the 1650 free.  A two-time Academic All-District honoree, she was named an Allstate NACDA Good Works Team nominee earlier this semester for her community service work.

Honors College - Junior fencer Salma Abdrabou (Cairo, Egypt / Dar El Tarbiah IGCSE) is the 2025-26 Deans' Award recipient from the Honors College.  A Technology, Information Systems and Analytics major, she has earned Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) status all five semesters at WSU, including four terms with a 4.00 GPA.  An epeeist, Abdrabou earned First Team All-CCFC (Central Collegiate Fencing Conference) honors this year after garnering Honorable Mention recognition each of her first two seasons.  She qualified for the NCAA Championships where she won 10 bouts to finish 16th in the nation.  Abdrabou is a two-year GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team selection and maintains a 3.98 cumulative GPA.

College of Liberal Arts and Sciences - Senior women's fencer Mehreen Siddiqui (Canton, Mich. / Salem) is the Deans' Award recipient from CLAS after receiving the Honors College award a year ago.  A Biochemistry and Chemical Biology Honors major, she has earned Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) accolades all five semesters she has been on the fencing squad with a perfect 4.00 term GPA every semester.  Siddiqui was an inductee into WSU's inaugural (2024-25) Chi Alpha Sigma Athlete Honor Society class.  A three-year GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team selection; she will also be a three-time D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award honoree.  Siddiqui was a 2024-25 United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) Scholar of Distinction recipient.

College of Nursing - Women's track and field senior Idalia Shadhaya (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Sterling Heights/Career Prep Center) is the 2025-26 Deans' Award honoree from the College of Nursing.   A Nursing major with a 3.93 cumulative GPA, she has earned Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) recognition all seven semesters, including four 4.0 terms.  Shadhaya was an inductee into WSU's inaugural (2024-25) Chi Alpha Sigma Athlete Honor Society class.  She will be a six-time GLIAC All-Academic Excellence selection (three years each in Indoor and Outdoor) and a three-year recipient of the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award.  Shadhaya has competed in 30 meets for the Warriors primarily in the events for the pentathlon (indoor) and heptathlon (outdoor).

School of Social Work - Jordan Hutchinson (Eastpointe, Mich. / Chandler Park Academy), a redshirt sophomore defensive tackle on the football team, is the Deans' Award recipient from the School of Social Work.  A Social Work major, he has been on the academic honor roll all five semesters, including one term on Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+).  A two-year member of the GLIAC All-Academic Team, Hutchinson has appeared in 13 games over the last two seasons, including seeing action on special teams.  He recorded his first tackle for loss this past season vs. Davenport.

Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences - Women's basketball senior Jaci Tubergen (Hudsonville, Mich. [Bowling Green]) is the Deans' Award recipient from the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences for the second straight year.  An Applied Health Sciences (pre-Occupational Therapy) major, she maintains a 3.929 cumulative GPA.  Tubergen came to WSU after two seasons at Bowling Green and has been on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll all three terms at Wayne State.  On the court, she played in 63 contests, helping the Warriors to a 44-20 mark and back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Midwest Regional semifinals.  Tubergen averaged nearly 28 minutes per game this past season, while setting career highs in points, field goals made, triples, rebounds, assists and steals.

School of Medicine - Men's fencing graduate student Eyad Marouf (Alexandria, Egypt / European International School of Alexandria) is the 2025-26 Deans' Award recipient from the School of Medicine.  Marouf, who was an inductee into WSU's inaugural (2024-25) Chi Alpha Sigma Athlete Honor Society class, has a cumulative post-grad GPA of 3.50 in Anatomy and Cell Biology.  He was a four-year All-CCFC (Central Collegiate Fencing Conference) honoree and a First Team All-American in 2024 with a top four finish at the NCAA National Championships.  Marouf concluded his collegiate career with a 339-107 record.  His 339 victories are the most not only in sabre, but in any weapon at WSU in the 86-year history of the sport at WSU.

Graduate School - Men's tennis graduate student Luis Klaus (Brühl, Germany / Archbishop's St. Ursula gymnasium [TH Köln]) came to WSU as a graduate transfer.  He is currently pursuing an MBA and has been on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll all three semesters as a Warrior, including two 4.0 terms.  Last week Klaus was voted to the All-GLIAC First Team in singles and Second Team in doubles with partner Harry Forsyth.  He moved up to No. 2 singles this year and compiled a 22-7 singles record, along with a 22-18 mark at first doubles.  Klaus has aided the men's tennis squad making back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances.

Eighty-three (83) student-athletes recorded a perfect 4.00 term GPA for the Fall 2025 semester with nearly 77 percent of Warrior student-athletes having a term GPA above a 3.00 for the Fall 2025 semester.  The cumulative GPA for all student-athletes is 3.465 with nearly 57 percent of all student-athletes having a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5.
