Four Men's Tennis Student-Athletes Garner CSC Academic All-District Honors

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team had four individuals named Academic All-District by the College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA), for the 2025-26 campaign.

Graduate student Luis Klaus (Brühl, Germany / Archbishop's St. Ursula gymnasium [TH Köln]), junior Benjamin Hill (Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany / Burgau-Gymnasium), sophomore George Day (Southampton, United Kingdom / Peter Symonds College), and sophomore Tom Wasner (Altenholz, Germany / Friedrichsort Community School) earned recognition for their outstanding effort on the court and in the classroom.

Klaus earns his first CSC Academic All-District distinction of his career, posting a 3.93 cumulative grade-point average while pursuing an MBA.  He was named to the Athletic Directors Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) in all four of his semesters at WSU, including two semesters with a 4.00 GPA.  A year ago, Klaus was recognized as a 2024-25 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete.  On the court, Klaus was sensational, as he wrapped his final collegiate season with a 24-9 record in singles and a 22-19 record in doubles.  The graduate student garnered First Team All-GLIAC honors in singles and a Second Team All-GLIAC nod in doubles.  He was ranked in singles in each of the ITA Rankings during the fall, reaching a highest ranking of 33rd nationally.  Klaus has totaled 84 hours of community service, as he served as a volunteer tennis coach and assisted with canned food drives.

Hill garners his second All-District honor, earning a 3.51 cumulative GPA while majoring in Sport Management.  He has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll twice, and the Coach's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.0-3.49) a trio of times.  The junior has twice been named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, has garnered GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team honors once, was a 2024-25 recipient of the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award, and serves as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).  Hill won the most singles matches of his career this season, with 24, and matched his personal best for doubles wins, at 14.

Day has been named to the CSC Academic All-District Team in his first year that he is eligible, with a 3.95 GPA in Finance.  He has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in each of his four semesters at WSU.  The sophomore is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and was recognized with ITA Scholar-Athlete honors last season.  Day was voted All-GLIAC for the second time in his career, being named First Team All-GLIAC in singles and Second Team All-GLIAC in doubles.  He occupied the No. 1 singles position for Wayne State, going 18-13, along with a 25-8 record in doubles action.  The Wayne State student-athlete has accumulated 82 community service hours, that include volunteer tennis coaching and assisting with food drives.

Wasner earns Academic All-District recognition after posting a 3.52 GPA in Management, while compiling a 20-9 record in singles and a 24-10 ledger in doubles.  The sophomore has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll twice and to the Coach's Honor Roll once.  He garnered All-GLIAC Second Team honors in singles and is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

The Green and Gold finished the 2026 season with a 14-11 record that included a GLIAC Tournament Championship appearance and an NCAA Tournament berth.  The Warriors fell in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament to Northwood 4-1 to conclude the spring campaign.
