Track And Field Program To Host Three Days Of Clinics in July

DETROIT --  The Wayne State University cross country and track & field programs will be hosting three one-day clinics on July 7-8-9 at WSU's Lowell Blanchard Track.  The clinics are for those age 12-17 and will run from 9 AM until noon each day.  The cost is $75 per clinic.

On July 7th, the clinic will consist of sprints, distance and shot put.

Sprinters
Join us in learning the essentials for Starting Mechanics, Acceleration, Top Speed, and Speed Endurance.

Learn from the WSU Coaches through drills, instruction, and work with our current student-athletes!

Distance
First hand look at how collegiate distance runners train and how it can help develop you and your events.

Work directly with head coach Grant Lofdahl on special training regimens and supplemental training.

Shot Put
Bring your implements and work directly with coach Celine Freeman-Gibb on proper technique.

Leave Wayne State with the drills necessary to continue improving.

The following day (July 8th), the clinic will focus on 800m run, long jump & high jump along with discus.

800m

Learn more tactics and technique for the 800m and 400m races.

Work directly with head coach Grant Lofdahl on different workouts and training for the 800m Run.

Long Jump/High Jump

Come and jump!  The session will start with drills and basic ideas on how to improve as an overall jumper.

Associate head coach Nate Miller will instruct our long and high jumpers on proper technique, approach, and drills to improve in both events.

Discus

Working with coach Celine Freeman-Gibb, you will start with drills for the discus and progress to full throwing.

The final day (July 9th) will consist of hurdles, javelin and hammer throw.

Hurdles
Associate head coach Nate Miller will work directly with our hurdlers for the 100/110 meter hurdle race and the 300 meter hurdle race.

Learn the proper hurdle approach, hurdle clearance, rhythm between the hurdles, and the drills to help you improve.

Learn a new event!

You may want to prepare for the summer series or collegiate throwing.  Work directly with coach Celine Freeman-Gibb and learn the basics of these two throwing events.
