Women's Track & Field Recognized by USTFCCCA As An All-Academic Team

A school record 12 Warriors earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete honors.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's track and field squad tied-for-ninth nationally among all NCAA Division 2 women's track programs with a 3.66 grade-point average. WSU ranked fourth in the Midwest Region and second in the GLIAC. In addition, a school record 12 student-athletes garnered USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete recognition.

"Our 2025-26 track and field team set new standards for the program in a number of ways, from new high point totals at the GLIAC indoor and outdoor championships to big efforts in community service," commented head coach Grant Lofdahl. "Seeing them break the program record with 12 individual USTFCCCA All-Academic honorees, and finish in the top-10 in the country for the second year in a row, is gratifying but not surprising.

"Credit the coaching staff for setting a high academic standard and pushing their athletes to succeed in the classroom, and big credit as well to our 2026 captains Avery Wilson, Makayla Stewart, Taylor Hopkins, Idalia Shadhaya, Emmanuela Johnson, and Rachel Felstow. They have a cumulative 3.78 GPA between them, so they have truly led the way for the entire team.

"We're never satisfied, so we will keep grinding and aim for number one in the GLIAC and the Midwest Region next year!"

Earning USTFCCCA All-Academic recognition were graduate students Robin Bresolin (Environmental Science - LaSalle, Ont. / St. Thomas of Villanova) and Emily Gordon (Nursing - Northville, Mich.), seniors Hanne Bastiaansen (Management - Tessenderlo, Belgium), Rachel Felstow (Biological Sciences - Leonard, Mich. / Romeo) and Avery Wilson (Nutrition & Food Science - Davison, Mich.), redshirt junior Keneisha Thomas (Biological Sciences - Madison Heights, Mich. / Lamphere), juniors Anna Gdowski (Exercise & Sport Science - Northville, Mich.), Rachel Overgaard (Biological Sciences - Ypsilanti, Mich. / Ann Arbor Huron) and Nicole Warren (Biomedical Engineering - Saline, Mich.), sophomore Megan Zahnow (Exercise & Sport Science - Vicksburg, Mich.), along with freshmen Audrey Huizinga (Social Work - Manistee, Mich.) and Ava Peters (Environmental Science - Livonia, Mich. / Franklin).

In order for individuals to earn the recognition, they must own at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA after at least 24 completed credit hours and they must record an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in at least one event during the indoor or outdoor seasons.
