10 Softball Student-Athletes Receive Academic All-GLIAC Recognition

The softball program has had 73 All-Academic honorees in the last six years.

DETROIT -- The 2025-26 Wayne State University softball squad has 10 GLIAC All-Academic honorees.  Over the last six years, 73 members of the softball program have earned Academic All-GLIAC recognition.

Criteria states that student-athlete must be an active member on their respective sport roster at the end of the season, and not a true freshman or a first-year transfer student.

Grade-point averages listed are calculated through the winter semester.

The seven student-athletes that were included on the All-Academic Excellence Team for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5 were sophomore Abby Barnes (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Northview), sophomore Kate DeWitt (Grand Blanc, Mich.), junior Mia Hool (Allen Park, Mich.), junior Molly Hool (Allen Park, Mich.), sophomore Elly Koopman (Hudsonville, Mich.), junior Sydney Long (Grand Blanc, Mich.), and sophomore Hunter Near (Coopersville, Mich.).

Mia Hool (Sport Management - 3.86), Molly Hool (Finance - 3.89), and Long (Sport Management - 3.77) were all honored for a second-straight year, while Barnes (Marketing - 3.77), DeWitt (Exercise & Sport Science - 3.69), Koopman (Biological Sciences - 3.74), and Near (Exercise & Sport Science - 3.70) were all first-year eligible.

The three Warriors included on the All-Academic Team for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0-3.49 were seniors Hayden Batton (Plainfield, Ind. / Avon), Kennedy Cole (Hopkins, Mich. / Wayland Union [Kent State]), and Maddie Hool (Allen Park, Mich.).

Both Batton (Elementary & Early Education - 3.32) and Maddie Hool (Sport Management - 3.45) were on the All-Academic Team for a third-straight year, while this season was the second for Cole (Exercise & Sport Science - 3.39) after transferring.

The softball team's cumulative 3.777 GPA for the Winter 2026 semester was third-best among WSU's 18 varsity sports, only behind men's tennis (3.868 GPA) and women's soccer (3.781).  Five Warriors achieved a perfect 4.0 term GPA, while fifteen (15) student-athletes were included on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for a term GPA of 3.5 or better.
