Men's Tennis Ranked No. 24 Nationally In Final ITA Rankings

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's tennis squad concluded the 2025-26 campaign ranked No. 24 nationally despite a first round loss in the NCAA Tournament.  The Warriors were ranked fifth in the Midwest Region by the ITA.  In addition, graduate student Luis Klaus (Brühl, Germany) tied-for-40th nationally in singles competition.

Besides the team regional ranking for WSU, sophomore George Day (Southampton, United Kingdom) was ninth in the Midwest Region in singles, while Klaus was ranked No. 12.  Klaus and redshirt freshman Harry Forsyth (Wamberal, New South Wales, Australia) finished the season ranked No. 7 in the Midwest Region in doubles.

Klaus went 24-8 in singles play, mostly at the second flight, while Day had an 18-13 record at the No. 1 position.  Klaus and Forsyth posted a 21-19 overall doubles mark at the top flight.

Wayne State compiled a 14-11 overall record and finished third in the GLIAC regular-season standings with a 4-2 league ledger.  All 11 losses were to either Division 1 (Toledo, 5-2) or nationally ranked Division 2 squads.

In addition to the Toledo setback, the Warriors fell to eventual national champion Flagler (4-0), No. 9-Florida Southern (4-0), No. 8-Embry Riddle (5-2), No. 15-Rollins (4-0), No. 44-Saint Leo (4-0), No. 15-UIndy (4-2), No. 44-Grand Valley State (5-2), and No. 26-Ferris State (4-3) during the regular season.

In the GLIAC Tournament semifinals, WSU blanked No. 32-GVSU (4-0), before falling 4-3 to No. 22-Ferris State in the Championship match.  No.30-Northwood defeated Wayne State 4-1 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.

All told, Wayne State played 12 matches against teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament posting a 3-9 record with wins over Findlay and Tiffin, plus the aforementioned triumph over GVSU.

The Warriors are slated to return seven letterwinners this upcoming fall, plus freshman Warren Gunnar, who played in less 30 percent of the matches to retain freshman eligibility.  Head coach Bryan Morrow has also signed one incoming freshman (Valentin Moraisin).
