Women's Soccer Adds Two To Coaching Staff

DETROIT -- With the inaugural season of the Wayne State University women's soccer program quickly approaching, first-year head coach Doug Steinard has added two members to his coaching staff. Post-Graduate Intern Coach Emily O'Malley and goalkeeper coach Mathew Walczowski have joined the Warriors.

A 2025 graduate of Butler University with a degree in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, O'Malley played in 74 career matches for the Bulldogs, starting the final 56 games played. A central midfielder, O'Malley concluded her collegiate career with one goal (at Marquette as a senior) and eight assists, while playing 4,700 minutes for BU.

The native of Chesterfield, Mich., was twice (2023 and 2025) a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honoree.

She played club soccer for the 2021 Girls Academy National Champion Michigan Nationals. O'Malley also won the USYSA National Championship three times (2015-16-17). The class valedictorian at L'Anse Cruese North, she was also a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council.

Walczowski, a 2012 graduate of Oakland University with a degree in Chemistry, also earned his master's in Chemistry from OU in 2016.

He has spent the last four years as the Director of Youth Goalkeeping for Detroit City FC as well as the Goalkeeper Coach for the Detroit City FC Academy. In addition, he has served the last two years as an assistant coach and Goalkeeper Coach for Detroit City FC II.

Walczowski obtained both a USSF C Coaching License and a USSF Goalkeeper C Coaching License in 2025, and is currently pursuing a UEFA C Coaching License.

He was a member of the Oakland University club soccer program 2007-2011 and served as the President of the OU Club Sports Advisory Council in 2010-11.

He and his wife, Andrea, and the parents of two children, Gavin and Isla.
