Jay Sommers, a 2001 graduate
of the University of Detroit Mercy,
is in his third season as a member of the WSU coaching staff.
Though only 26-years-old,
Sommers is very familiar with David
Greer[apos]s style and philosophy.
Sommers served as a student assistant
coach at U of D from 1996-
2001, the last three seasons as the
head student assistant. While
Sommers was on the bench, the
Titans went to the NCAA Tournament
twice (1998 & 1999).
Sommers[apos] duties with the Warriors include team travel, film exchange, study table, scouting and on-floor coaching.
The Harper Woods, Mich., native has also coached at L[apos]Anse Creuse
High School, the Perry Watson Basketball Camp, the Metro D Basketball
Camp, the Franklin Racquet Club Basketball Camp and WSU Fundamental
and Team Camps. Most recently, Sommers was an instructor at the Michigan Basketball School in the summer of 2003.
Sommers earned his undergraduate degree in communications and
holds a secondary teaching certification in English and speech. He is currently enrolled in graduate school at WSU for sports
administration.
