* GAMES 17-18 STORYLINES
After losing three of four during its homestand, Wayne State embarks on a four-game road trip starting Thursday at Tiffin.
The Warriors have lost four consecutive away games since winning twice in the Upper Peninsula to begin league play. WSU will play six of its final 10 games on the road.
* FERRIS STATE RECAP
Wayne State led nearly the entire game but was unable to score in the final 5:50 as Ferris State rallied for a 54-52 win on January 21.
The Warriors led 2-0 on a layup by
Ike Udanoh and 4-2 following a jumper by
Jerry Oden, and the contest was not tied again for the next 35 minutes. After an FSU bucket made it 5-4 at the 16:11 mark, WSU went on a 7-0 run with Udanoh,
Bryan Wright and
Mike Hollingsworth getting on the scoresheet.
A layup by Udanoh at the 4:40 mark gave WSU its largest lead of the game (13) at 30-17. The Warriors did not score in the final 4:30 of the first half as FSU scored the final six points before intermission.
WSU had a four-point lead following a triple by Hollingsworth with 5:53 remaining in the contest. In its next five possessions, the Warriors had one turnover and went 0-for-5 from the floor, as FSU scored four consecutive points from the charity stripe to knot the game at 52 with 2:17 left.
After WSU's fifth consecutive miss from the floor, Darien Gay hit a jumper coming off a couple of screens with 16 seconds left giving the Bulldogs their first lead of the game.
* GRAND VALLEY RECAP
WSU was not able to sustain its early momentum and fell 57-48 to Grand Valley on Jan. 23.
The Warriors came out flying on all cylinders and opened up a 21-4 lead 9:30 into the contest. Six different WSU players scored with Oden leading the way with eight points. Wayne State scored three points in the final five minutes before intermission but led by 11 (28-17) at the break.
WSU had a 10-point advantage at the 12:15 mark. The Lakers answered with an 11-0 run to take their first lead of the game, 42-41, on a triple by Alvin Storrs. Wright hit a three-pointer to temporarily regain the lead. Storrs' three-pointer knotted the game at 48 and, following a WSU miss, Toreau Brown gave GVSU the lead for good on a layup with 3:35 left.
WSU did not score in the final 4:35 of the game as the Lakers tallied the final 12 points.
* ON THE BENCH
David Greer, just the ninth head coach in school history, is in his ninth season at WSU with a record of 121-116. He is the fifth-longest tenured coach in 92 seasons of WSU basketball.
Tiffin's John Hill has a 1-16 mark in his first year with the Dragons. Hill is in his 28th season as a collegiate head coach.
John Ellenwood is in his first year with the Eagles and has an 8-9 record heading into Thursday's game against Northwood.
* SCOUTING TIFFIN
The Dragons are 1-6 at home with their lone win coming on Nov. 28 (79-71) over Cincinnati-Clermont.
DeAngelo Jordan leads the squad in points (11.5 per game) and steals (16).
Keenan Barlow is second in scoring (10.6 ppg) and rebounding (4.9 per game), and first in three-pointers made (34).
Brian Scott is third in scoring (8.8 ppg) and first in assists (34).
Rafael Cuellar has a team-best 86 rebounds, while Brandon Harris has 30 blocked shots in 329 minutes this season.
TU has played much better in the second half of games as the Dragons have been outscored 39-34 on average compared to 43-30 in the first half.
* SCOUTING ASHLAND
The Eagles enter Thursday's game against Northwood on a four-game losing streak.
Bylynn Hatcher leads AU in scoring (12.7 points per game) and free throws made (61).
Kale Richardson, a First Team All-GLIAC South Division selection a year ago, is first on the team in rebounding (6.5 per game), three-pointers made (23) and blocked shots (16), and second in scoring (12.5 per game).
Evan Yates is shooting 64 percent (69-of-108) from the floor, averaging 11.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per contest.
Darius Brents is averaging over four assists per game and is tied for the team lead in steals with 21.
