Seven Men's Basketball Student-Athletes Earn Academic All-GLIAC Honors

The seven recipients are one off the program's most in the last 24 years.

DETROIT -- Seven members of the 2025-26 Wayne State University men's basketball program were recognized with GLIAC All-Academic honors.  The seven recipients are tied for the third-most in the last 24 years.

Criteria states that student-athlete must be an active member on their respective sport roster at the end of the season, and not a true freshman or a first-year transfer student.

Grade-point averages listed are calculated through the fall semester since that was the last grading period before the season ended.

The four student-athletes represented on the All-Academic Excellence Team for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5 were redshirt sophomore Adam Ayrault (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich. / Grosse Pointe North), junior Jordan Briggs (Muskegon, Mich.), senior Bryce Esman (Metamora, Mich. / Oxford), and senior Chris Mutebi (Farmington Hills, Mich. / University of Detroit Jesuit).

Both Ayrault (Management - 3.69) and Briggs (Marketing - 3.73) were included for the second time in as many seasons they were eligible for the recognition, while Esman (Marketing - 3.92) also became a two-time honoree (back-to-back seasons).  Meanwhile, Mutebi (Public Health Honors - 3.52) returned to the Excellence Team for the second time in his career and first since the 2023-24 season.  It is his third straight year on one of the two squads, as last campaign he was on the All-Academic Team.

The three Warriors earning All-Academic Team accolades for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0-3.49 were graduate student Jon Brantley (Farmington Hills, Mich. / Brother Rice [Lafayette College]), senior Eli Lohr (China Township, Mich. / St. Clair), and senior Kelvin Tamakloe (Accra, Ghana / Spring Creek Academy [Blinn College]).

Brantley (MBA - 3.37) and Tamakloe (Finance - 3.26) were both first-year eligible in their second seasons at Wayne State.  They were transfers during 2024-25 and thus ineligible for recognition last year.  Lohr (Biomedical Engineering - 3.27) marked his third straight year on Academic Team.

The men's basketball squad had seven student-athletes on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for a term GPA of 3.5 or better during the Winter 2026 semester.  Two accomplished a perfect 4.0 term GPA for the semester.
