Warriors total seven NCAA "B" cuts


MEET RESULTS

ASHLAND, Ohio -
In the first meet of the 2010-11 season, the Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team lost a narrow 151-149 result to Ashland University on Saturday afternoon.

Though Wayne State won nine individual events, the meet ultimately came down to the 400 medley relay. The Eagles took first and third, while Wayne State finished second and fourth.

Joaquin Abascal Gallegos won three events, making NCAA “B” cuts in the 100 breaststroke (58.51), 200 breaststroke (2:07.07), and the 200 individual medley (1:55.59).

Abascal Gallegos also swam the second leg of the third-place 400 medley relay (3:29.27) with Jimmy Lee, Kevin Galerneau and Andrey Seryy.

Seryy achieved “B” qualifying times with first-place finishes in the 50 free (20.53) and 100 free (46.19). He later lowered his 100 free cut (45.29) leading off the decisive 400 free relay along with Nathan Hesche, Oskar Nordstrand, and Kristian Larsen (3:09.80).

Others earning “B” cuts were Lee, who won the 200 backstroke (1:55.14), and Larsen, who won the 200 free (1:43.53). 

Nordstrand finished first in the 1000 free (9:53.79), and Jeff Grant won the three-meter diving competition (252.90).

Wayne State's diving corps will compete at the Clarion Invitational next weekend, while the full squad's next meet is Oct. 30 at Oakland.
