ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team lost a dual meet at Oakland University,
173-118, on Saturday afternoon.
Wayne State's top performer was
Joaquin Abascal Gallegos (Madrid, Spain), who came in under the NCAA “B” qualifying standard for the 400 individual medley (4:05.38) and improved his “B” times in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events, finishing first in both (58.05, 2:05.85).
Abascal Gallegos also swam the third leg of the second-place 200 medley relay (1:34.40) with
Jimmy Lee (Windsor, Ont./Riverside),
Matt Victor (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay), and
Andrey Seryy (Saint-Petersburg, Russia).
Lee finished second both the 100 and 200 backstroke, improving upon his prior “B” time in the latter (52.58, 1:53.23).
Seryy won the 100 freestyle with a time of 46.30.
Kevin Galerneau (Washington, Mich./Eisenhower) was the runner-up in the 200 butterfly (1:56.65) and the third-place finisher in the 100 fly (52.89).
Wayne State will host Calvin in a dual meet at the Matthaei on Nov. 12 at 6:00 p.m.
