BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The Wayne State University men's tennis team (13-5, 5-1 GLIAC) lost its first conference match of the season on Sunday as host Ferris State defeated the Warriors 5-4.
WSU started out strong with its No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams both gaining victories. Bertrand Moulin and Britton Steele defeated FSU's Kyle Revall and Steven Roberts 9-8 (8-2) from the first flight while Eric Szydlowski and Thomas Ducret downed Jack Swan and Justin Hermes 8-5 from the second flight.
Wayne State's Oscar Gamarra and Kevin Turnbull came up short at No. 3 doubles, losing 8-6 to Ahmet Demir and Arin Enge.
Moulin and Ducret won their No. 1 and No. 3 singles bouts respectively to get Wayne State third and fourth points of the afternoon. Moulin downed Revall 6-0, 7-5 and Ducret bested Swan 6-2, 6-3.
Steele took Demir three sets, but ultimately lost 6-1, 2-6, 6-2. Meanwhile, Gamarra (7-5, 6-3), Szydlowski (6-0, 6-1) and Roberto Gomez (6-4, 7-5) all suffered losses from the bottom half of WSU's lineup as well.
Wayne State will conclude the regular season with a home match this Tuesday vs. Northwood at 1:00 p.m.
