Team/Individual Results
Northville, Mich. -- The Wayne State men's cross country team placed second at the 24th Annual Running Fit-Detroit Titan Cross Country Invitational at Cass Benton Park in Northville.
“We competed really hard in the second part of the race,” head coach
Rick Cummins said. “Overall, I'm happy with the performance and glad all of our returning people ran well.”
Three WSU runners, junior
Kevin deBear (3rd-20:38), sophomore
Doug Mack (8th-20:57) and junior
Alex Townsend (10th-21:03) led the charge, finishing in the top ten.
“Kevin is a guy who is out for revenge,” Cummins said. “He was not satisfied with how things ended for him last season. Alex ran tough today and Doug showed today that he is capable of being really good.”
Sophomore
Matt Devey was just outside the top ten, posting a 12th place time at 21:06. Redshirt senior
Dan Kapadia was next in line for the Warriors finishing the race in 24th (21:32).
Sophomore
Phil Baldick (21:40) and senior
Pat Webster (21:43) came in 28th and 29th, respectively. Sophomore
Saeed Saleh (21:51) was right behind them picking up 32nd place.
Freshman
Nicholas Jackson, running in his first ever collegiate race, posted a quality 34th place finish at 21:55, while fellow top-40 runners sophomores
Jason Smith (22:05) and
Phil Kosky (22:14) landed at 37th.
Freshmen
Zachary Cieplechowicz (23:11) and
Abdu Hadarah (23:29) rounded out the group with 60th and 65th place finishes.
Running unattached was junior
Travis Barczak (13th-21:07) and Warriors assistant coach
Matt Fecht who was 6th with a time of 20:55.
Eastern Michigan won the event with 41 points as James Hughes of EMU took home first place with a time of 20:25.
