Midland, Mich. - The Wayne State University women's tennis team (12-2, 11-1 GLIAC) saw its four-match win streak come to end following a
5-1 setback to Grand Valley State (13-2, 10-2 GLIAC) in the GLIAC Tournament semifinals on Saturday.
Senior
Kristina Goranskaya (Thornhill, Ontario / Northview Heights Secondary School) and freshman
Daniela Garcia-Diaz (Cali (Valle, Colombia) / Gimnasio, Britanico) picked up the WSU's lone point at one doubles with a 9-7 victory over Tara Hayes and Alyssa Lucas.
In No. 2 singles, Garcia-Diaz was handed a 6-4, 6-4 defeat at the hands of Hayes.
Freshmen
Yahsha Moore (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) and
Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Que. / École Secondaire Félix-Leclerc) (11-1) dropped their first conference match of the season in heartbreaking fashion, falling 9-8 (0-2) to Leah Dancz and Allison Fecko at two doubles.
Briand was bested by Lexi Rice at four singles, 6-1, 6-4, while sophomore
Jessica Kruczek (Detroit, Mich. / Lakeview) fell, 6-3, 6-2, to Fecko at five singles.
Sophomore
Tanya Joseph (Northville, Mich. / Northville) and freshman
Haleigh McPeek (Lake Forest, Ill. / Lake Forest) came up short in their three doubles match with Rice and Niki Shipman, 8-1.
The rest of the matches went unfinished.
WSU battles Ashland Univeristy in the third place match tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m.
