Midland, Mich. - The Wayne State University women's tennis team (13-2) recorded a third place finish at the GLIAC Tournament, its best mark since 2008, following its decisive
6-0 shutout victory over Ashland University on Sunday.
WSU swept doubles play, winning all three matches by two points.
Senior
Kristina Goranskaya (Thornhill, Ontario / Northview Heights Secondary School) and freshman
Daniela Garcia-Diaz (Cali (Valle, Colombia) / Gimnasio, Britanico) won an 8-6 decision over Victoria Goudy and Paige Cooper.
Freshmen
Yahsha Moore (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) and
Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Que. / École Secondaire Félix-Leclerc) capped a stellar first half of the season with an 8-6 victory over Erika Sullivan and Zdenka Pozo. Along with posting a 14-2 record, the Moore and Briand failed to lose a conference match during the regular season.
Sophomore
Tanya Joseph (Northville, Mich. / Northville) and freshman
Haleigh McPeek (Lake Forest, Ill. / Lake Forest) defeated Kira Kotova and Sally Trout, 9-7, at three doubles.
Finishing their matches simultaneously, Goranskaya bested Goudy at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2 and Joseph handed Trout a 6-2, 6-1 setback at six singles. Moore scored a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Cooper at three singles
