Findlay, Ohio – The Wayne State University women's tennis team (9-1, 9-1 GLIAC) bounced back into the win column following its
9-0 road victory over the University of Findlay (2-9, 1-9 GLIAC) on Friday afternoon.
After sweeping doubles play, the Warriors took five of the six singles matches in straight sets.
Senior
Kristina Goranskaya (Thornhill, Ontario / Northview Heights Secondary School) (13-2 overall) moved within 10 wins of tying
Sharon Gill for most singles wins in program history after her 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Holly Vietzke. Goranskaya won her 73rd career doubles match, teaming with freshman
Daniela Garcia-Diaz (Cali (Valle, Colombia) at one doubles. Goranskaya now sits seven wins away from equaling Gill for the school's all-time doubles mark.
Garcia-Diaz went on to defeat Kelsey Yoder, 6-4, 6-7, 10-7 at two singles.
At No. 3 singles, freshman
Yahsha Moore (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) (11-2 overall) came away on top, 6-1, 6-0 over Jessica Adkins. Moore paired with fellow freshman
Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Que. / École Secondaire Félix-Leclerc) as they handed Adkins and Beverly Beavers, 8-1.
Briand shutout Allison James at four singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Sophomore
Tanya Joseph (Northville, Mich. / Northville) and freshman
Haleigh McPeek (Lake Forest, Ill. / Lake Forest) (6-2 overall) won their three doubles match over Yoder and Christina Terry, 8-2. Joseph went on to pick up a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Emily Gerber, while
Jessica Kruczek (Detroit, Mich. / Lakeview) handed Beavers a 6-2, 6-0 setback at No. 5 singles.
The Warriors return home for two straight matches against Tiffin on Sunday at 10 a.m. and Hillsdale on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
