GRAND RAPIDS - The Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team won its second straight road dual meet, a
158-79 result at Calvin College on Friday night.
The Warriors opened the night with a victory in the 200 medley relay, as the combination of
Jimmy Lee,
Joaquin Abascal Gallegos,
Nathan Hesche and
Kristian Larsen went 1:35.29.
Larsen won two individual events, the 100 freestyle (47.71) and the 200 freestyle (1:43.28). He earned an NCAA “B” qualifying time in the latter.
The 200 free was one of four events in which WSU nabbed the top three times.
Kyle Taylor and
Cameron Fryzel followed Larsen in the 200 free (1:48.74; 152.66).
Abascal Gallegos led a trio of Warriors in the 400 individual medley (4:13.66), followed by
Cameron Weaver (4:21.69) and
Kevin Galerneau (4:27.27).
The Warriors went one through four in the 100 butterfly, with Lee winning the event (52.77). Taylor led three WSU swimmers in the 500 free (4:54.58) to clinch the meet victory.
Other first-place swims were turned in by
Calvin Reder in the 1650 free (17:10.99) and Hesche in the 100 backstroke (52.08).
In one-meter diving,
Dylan Szegedi earned his national cut with a score of 312.50.
Wayne State will host Ashland in its first home dual meet of the season next Friday at 6:00 p.m.
