Indianapolis, Ind. – The 38th-ranked Wayne State men's tennis team moved to 2-0 with an
8-1 win over the University of Indianapolis on Saturday.
After sweeping doubles play, the Warriors took five of the six singles matches from the Greyhounds.
Sophomore
Thomas Ducret (Paris, France) defeated Christian Nikou, 6-1, 6-0, in No.1 singles. Ducret teamed with freshman
Michael FitzGerald (Grosse Ile, Mich./Grosse Ile) at No. 2 doubles and came walked away with an 8-4 win over Alex Poe and Jeff Price.
Fitzgerald was also victorious in his No. 4 singles match with Caleb Fellers, 6-2, 6-3.
At the No. 3 spot, freshman
Aman Gill (Windsor, Ont./Assumption College HS) beat Poe, 6-4, 6-0.
Gill and junior
Matt Fisher (Shelby Twp., Mich./Utica Eisenhower) followed suit with an 8-6 win over Nikou and Trevor Cox in No. 1 doubles. Fisher ousted Preston Swain in No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-4.
Sophomore
Oscar Gamarra (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Unidad Educativa Javier) and freshman
Melvin Joseph (Northville, Mich./Northville) triumphed in a close No. 3 doubles match with Fellers and Pete Wilson, 9-8 (7-3). Gamarra handed Michael Bradley a 6-0, 6-1 loss in No. 5 singles.
Freshman
Alec Attala (Clinton Township, Mich./Chippewa Valley) suffered a tough setback to Cox at No. 2 singles, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5).
