* GAME STORYLINES

The Wayne State women's basketball team concluded its road trip with its second victory in the three-game set, a 66-60 triumph at Lake Erie College on Saturday (1/29).

WSU returns to the Matthaei for a three-game homestand, starting with Northern Michigan on Thursday (2/3) at 8:00 p.m. and Michigan Tech on Saturday (2/5) for a 3:00 p.m. tip-off.

* ON THE BENCH

Gloria Bradley, the longest tenured women's basketball coach in Wayne State University history, is in her 11th season at WSU and her 18th as a head coach. Bradley's record at WSU is 121-169, while her career record stands at 235-238.

Troy Mattson, in his sixth season as the head coach of the Northern Michigan women's basketball program, has compiled a 60-78 overall record.

Kim Cameron is in her first season as the head mentor of the Michigan Tech women's basketball team. Cameron currently has the Huskies sitting atop the GLIAC with an 11-1 conference mark and a 16-2 overall record.

* WARRIOR NOTEBOOK

-- Prior to tallying then season-best totals in points (6) and rebounds (6) versus Saint Joseph's (12/29), sophomore Phaebre Colbert was averaging 1.0 ppg and 2.1 rpg. Since, Colbert is averging 12.3 ppg and 7.9 rpg. In her last five games, Colbert has posted 15.8 ppg and 8.2 rpg.

-- Sophomore Paige Sickmiller posted her best output since opening night, by scoring 13 points, including four three-pointers, at Ohio Dominican (1/22). Sickmiller's game against the Panthers catapulted her into averaging 11.7 ppg in the last three games.

-- Sophomore Amelia Davis had her best all-around game of her career at Lake Erie (1/29), recording career-best totals in points (13) and steals (4), while also tying career-highs in rebounds (9) and assists (5).

-- Senior Chelsea Kouri made three triples on her way to scoring a season-high 13 points at Ashland (1/27). Kouri played her first significant minutes (20) at Ohio Dominican (1/22), since returning from off-season surgery, producing 10 points.

-- In her first game after missing three with an injury, sophomore Deanna Crumpton scored eight points vs. Tiffin (1/20). She tallied eight points again at Lake Erie (1/29). Crumpton was averaging 11.6 ppg and 6.8 rpg in the five games leading up to her injury.

* WEEK IN REVIEW

Wayne State fell behind by as many as 25 points on its way to losing, 81-61, at Ashland last Thursday (1/27). The Warriors shot only 29.4 percent in the second half, while the Eagles made 46.9 percent of their shots. Ashland controlled the post area, tallying 50 points in the paint.

Five players scored in double figures, with Daiva Gerbec tallying a game-high 27 points and grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds. Colbert and Kouri both scored 13 points to lead four Warriors in double-digits.

WSU ended its three-game road trip with a 66-60 win at Lake Erie on Saturday (1/29). Unselfish play was the theme as the Warriors dished out 16 assists on 26 made field goals. Seven of the eight WSU players recorded at least one assist.
Colbert had her fifth straight double-digit game by posting a team-high 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting.

Sickmiller played a career-high 35 minutes on her way to tallying 12 points and collecting five rebounds.

The Warriors shot 52 percent (26-of-50) from the floor and held the Storm to 35.7 percent, including 18.8 percent from behind the arc.

* SCOUTING NORTHERN MICHIGAN

The Wildcats enter the contest with Wayne State having lost seven of their last 10 games, and though they fell at home Saturday to Northwood, 65-58, NMU was able to pick up an upset win last Thursday vs. Hillsdale (1/27), 67-64.

Staci Beckel scored a game-high 21 points against the Chargers. Steffani Stoeger added 14 points and Chelsea Lyons had 12.

Lyons (11.6 ppg) and Beckel (11.2 ppg) rank 21st and 23rd in the GLIAC in scoring, respectively.

* SCOUTING MICHIGAN TECH


After falling to Ferris State on Jan. 20, 63-60, the Huskies have won three straight entering Thursday's game at Findlay, including 13 of their past 14 games. MTU holds the best scoring margin in the GLIAC at +14.5. The Huskies are first in the conference in scoring defense at 54.6 ppg.

Michigan Tech is shooting a league-leading 46.2 percent from the floor, while holding opponents to a league-best 35.0 percent. MTU is also shooting a conference-best 40.9 percent from behind the arc.

Lucy Dernovsek (12.5 ppg), Sam Hoyt (10.6 ppg), Lisa Staehlin (10.4 ppg) and Lindsey Lindstrom (9.5 ppg) are all in the top-30 in the conference in scoring.
