Men's Tennis' Win Streak Hits Four After Second Straight 6-3 Victory

The Wayne State University men's tennis team (11-4, 4-0 GLIAC) recorded its fourth straight victory and remained unbeaten in GLIAC play following a 6-3 triumph over host Lake Superior (1-15, 0-5 GLIAC) on Saturday.

After sweeping doubles play, Melvin Joseph (Northville, Mich./Northville) clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Joao Gaberiel-Oliveira in No. 4 singles.

Joseph teamed with Aman Gill (Windsor, Ont./Assumption College HS) in No. 1 doubles, defeating Sergiu Laza and Brandon Clayton, 8-3. Gill went on to lose a hard-fought No. 2 singles match to Clayton, 4-6, 6-4, 10-6.

Oscar Gamarra (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Unidad Educativa Javier) moved his singles record to 10-4 on the season after besting Robert Nelson in No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Gamarra and Matt Fisher (Shelby Twp., Mich./Utica Eisenhower) paired in No. 3 doubles, taking down Ryne DuShane and Jack Miller, 8-6. 

Thomas Ducret (Paris, France) and Alec Attala (Cinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) won their No. 2 doubles match with Nelson and Travis Toth, 8-5. While Attala bested DuShane in No. 6 singles, 4-6, 6-3, 10-4, Ducret suffered a 6-4, 6-2 setback to Laza in No. 1 singles. 

Eric Szydlowski (Canton, Mich./Canton) conceded his first singles match this season, falling 6-4, 6-2 to Toth in No. 5 singles.

The Warriors play their next three matches at home, starting with Aquinas College this Wednesday (3/31) at 3:00 p.m.
