May 2, 2011

Allendale, Mich. -
The Wayne State University (15-8) women's tennis team had its season come to an end following a 5-2 defeat to Ferris State University (20-4) at Grand Valley State University on Monday.

Sharon Gill (Windsor, Ont.) and Kristina Goranskaya (Thornhill, Ont.) scored an 8-6 victory over Amy Ingle and Tiffany Rheynard in No. 1 singles. Gill and Goranskaya ended the season with the most doubles wins school history for a single season after posting a 24-2 mark.

In No. 3 doubles, Caroline Gosman (Windsor, Ont.) and Jessica Kruczek (Detroit, Mich.) gave the Warriors a 2-1 advantage heading into singles play with their 9-7 triumph over Tabitha Simpson and Natalie Diorio.

It would be WSU's last point as it fell in four straight singles matches with the other two going unfinished.

SENIOR FAREWELL

Monday's match was the last for Gill, Milena Vuksanovic (Pancevo, Serbia), McCall Monte (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.), Debora Correa (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and Jennifer Bradford (Detroit, Mich.).

“The Seniors have been great; just a great group of kids on and off the court,” head coach Sheila Snyder said. “They came in every day and worked hard. They're great students and we had a lot of success and a lot of fun together. They will be missed."

Gill undoubtedly endured numerous accolades during her years at WSU, most noticeably breaking the school record for most singles and doubles victories in a career. She ends her career with a 84-15 singles mark and a 80-27 doubles record.

Vuksanovic finished her time at WSU with the second-most doubles wins (71) for a career, while Correa sits sixth with 42 victories.

During her three year tenor with WSU, Monte posted the tenth-best doubles winning percentage (.723/34-13) in school history.

Bradford, who was a staple in the No. 6 singles position during her four-year career, ranks fifth all-time in singles wins (46).
