Women's Tennis Nabs Seventh Straight Victory

Warriors best Lake Superior State, 8-1, on Friday

Detroit, Mich. - The Wayne State University women's tennis team (7-0, 7-0 GLIAC) closed the month of September unbeaten after recording an 8-1 triumph over visiting Lake Superior State University (8-4, 3-4 GLIAC) on Friday at Eastside Tennis and Fitness Club.

After sweeping doubles play, the Warriors took five of the six singles matches in straight sets.

Senior Kristina Goranskaya (Thornhill, Ontario / Northview Heights Secondary School) and freshman Yahsha Moore (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) both remained undefeated (7-0) in GLIAC singles play as Goranskaya bested Adrienne DiVito at one singles, 6-3, 6-0, while Moore scored a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Tess Marton in the three slot.

Moore and fellow freshman Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Que. / École Secondaire Félix-Leclerc) improved their conference doubles record to 6-0, defeating Erin Anderson-Scott and Kaitlynn Hutchinson at two doubles, 8-2.

In No. 4 singles, Briand (8-2 overall) went on to pick up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Hutchinson.

While the duo of Goranskaya and Daniela Garcia-Diaz (Cali (Valle, Colombia) / Gimnasio, Britanico) (9-2 overall) battled to a 9-7 victory over DiVito and Marton in one doubles, sophomore Tanya Joseph (Northville, Mich. / Northville) and freshman Haleigh McPeek (Lake Forest, Ill. / Lake Forest) (6-2 overall) triumphed, 8-2, over Teodora Gavric and Holly Daniel at three doubles.

Gracia-Diaz (7-2 overall) tallied a 6-0, 6-2 win over Anderson-Scott at No. 2 singles and Joseph defeated Meagan Grey, 6-1, 6-1, at six singles.

Sophomore Jessica Kruczek (Detroit, Mich. / Lakeview) suffered a 6-1, 6-2 setback to Daniel in the No. 5 spot.

The Warriors will play host to Michigan Tech on Sunday at 10 a.m. before welcoming Northwood University on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
