Men's Swimming & Diving Competes At Eastern Michigan

Seryy wins both sprint freestyle events


YPSILANTI - The Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team faced Eastern Michigan University in a dual meet Friday night, which resulted in a 143-98 victory for the Eagles.

Wayne State began the meet with its first of four event victories, as the 200 medley relay of Lucas Fernandez Vilanova, Piotr Jachowicz (making his WSU debut), Nathan Hesche, and Andrey Seryy turned in a time of 1:34.25.

Individual victories were achieved by Seryy in the 50 freestyle (20.29) and 100 freestyle (44.89), and Kyle Taylor in the 200 freestyle (1:43.54).

Joaquin Abascal Gallegos finished in second place in the 200 individual medley (1:54.57), the 200 breaststroke (2:05.99) and the 200 butterfly (1:54.44), earning an NCAA “B” qualifying time in the latter.

Fernandez Vilanova, who improved his NCAA “B” time, finished second in the 200 backstroke.  Kristian Larsen was the runner-up in the 1000 freestyle (9:51.64).

Leading the divers were Dylan Szegedi, who placed third in the one-meter competition (250.60), and Jeff Grant, who came in fourth on both the one-meter (249.90) and three-meter (258.60) boards.
