Men's Basketball Suffers 68-63 Setback At Findlay

Udanoh tallies a team-best 16 points.


Findlay, Ohio – The Wayne State University men's basketball team (8-5 overall, 5-2 GLIAC) suffered its fourth consecutive road setback with a 68-63 loss at the University of Findlay (11-3 overall, 5-2 GLIAC) Saturday afternoon.
 
The game had 13 lead changes and nine tied scores with the last tie coming at 60 with 1:14 left as senior center Ike Udanoh (Detroit, Mich./Warren Woods Tower) sank the first of two free throws in a double bonus situation.
 
Findlay's Kyle Caiola then put the hosts in front for good with a conventional three-point play with 56.2 seconds remaining.  Following a missed lay-up by the Warriors, Caiola made two foul shots with 21.2 left putting the Oilers in front 65-61.  Another missed lay-up by WSU led to UF's Aaron Robinson splitting a pair from the charity stripe with 11.1 seconds remaining to seal Findlay's 71st consecutive GLIAC regular-season home victory.
 
Coleman led WSU with 18 points, while Udanoh added 16 points.  Senior guard Stacey Waters (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) tallied 10 points.  Senior guard Dale Brundidge (Southfield, Mich./Detroit Country Day) had game-high totals of eight rebounds and five assists.
 
Caiola, who was one of four Oilers in double figures, recorded a game-high 20 points which included 10-of-12 from the foul line.
 
Findlay led 18-6 in points off turnovers as WSU committed 13 miscues to seven for the Oilers.
 
Wayne State returns to the Matthaei for a 7:37 p.m. tip-off on Thursday against Hillsdale.  The game will be televised live on Comcast Channel 900 with Jamie Samuelsen and Rod Beard calling the action and Joe Abramson serving as the sideline reporter.
