Men's Tennis Falls 6-1 at UDM

Warriors salvage one win in singles, doubles matches against cross-town foe.


Detroit, Mich. -- The Wayne State Men's Tennis team officially opened the 2011-12 campaign facing the University of Detroit Titans at the Franklin Athletic Club in a dual meet. The Warriors entered the match ranked sixth in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional rankings.

Unfortunately, the Titans (3-4) defeated the Warriors (0-1) 6-1.

Thomas Ducret (Paris, France) won the lone singles match at the number two position, defeating Nick Tolomei 6-3, 6-1.

Wayne State's number one doubles pair of Aman Gill (Windsor, Ont./Assumption College HS) and Melvin Joseph (Northville, Mich.) earned the doubles victory , downing Alex Latosinsky and Jay Joshi 8-6.

5. Serrao, Cesar (UDM) def. Oscar Gamarra (WSU) 6-1, 6-2
6. Cheung, Chris (UDM) def. Jason Chen (WSU) 6-3, 6-4

Doubles:
1. Gill/Joseph (WSU) def. Latosinsky/Joshi (UDM) 8-6
2. Basha/Cheun (UDM) def. FitzGerald/Chen (WSU) 8-5
3. Stabley, David/Nunez (UDM) def. Ducret/Gamarra (WSU) 8-6

The Warriors will have some time off before traveling to the Canton, Ohio  area on Feb. 10, where they will face Walsh University and Malone University.
