Women's Tennis Earns 20th Win with 8-1 Victory Over Oakland

WSU dominant over Division I foe.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State women's tennis team (20-3 overall) defeated the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies (1-9) from Division I's Summit League 8-1 Tuesday afternoon at the Multi-Purpose Facility, and set several records in the process.

It was the first indoor match on campus in women's tennis history (the men's tennis team played the first-ever match in the facility Saturday). It was also the second time Coach Sheila Snyder led the squad to 20 wins (2006-07).

Kristina Goranskaya continued her personal winning streak at singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Oakland's Caitlin Young. With the victory, Goranskaya surpassed Sharon Gill for most career wins in WSU history. Goranskaya's 25 wins in 2011-12 is also a WSU record (Gill). Yahsha Moore, Anne Li Briand, and Tanya Joseph also posted wins in their singles flights for the Warriors.

At doubles, the Warriors dominated in all three flights. Goranskaya and partner Daniela Garcia-Diaz moved into a four way tie for second place in the WSU record book for single-season wins at doubles. Moore and Briand also picked up their 21st win of the season and are part of that four-way tie.

The Warriors hit the road to face future GLIAC opponents Malone and Walsh on Friday, April 6.
