Men's Tennis Takes 8-1 Decision over Findlay

Thomas Ducret rallies at the top singles flight help Warriors to dominant victory

DETROIT -- The Wayne State men's tennis team (12-8, 6-1 GLIAC) continues to put itself in a position to tie for the GLIAC regular-season title this season. The Warriors defeated visiting rival Findlay 8-1 on Friday afternoon at the Matthaei Tennis Courts.

Junior Thomas Ducret (Paris, France) rallied at top singles to help the Warriors to the 8-1 victory. Ducret dropped the first set 4-6, but rallied to win the second set 6-4 and won the super tiebreaker 12-10 over the Oilers' Kyle Collette, who is ranked ninth in the region individually. Fellow junior Jon Groszek (Dearborn Heights, Mich./Dearborn Divine Child) posted the only 6-0, 6-0 victory over Chirs Miller.

At doubles, sophomores Melvin Joseph (Northville, Mich.) and Aman Gill (Windsor, Ont./Assumption College HS) battled back from 3-0 hole against the UF (8-7, 3-5 GLIAC) duo of Collette and David Hebda, however the Oilers duet took a 9-7 decision.

Ducret and reigning GLIAC Tennis Athlete of the Week junior Oscar Gamarra (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Unidad Educativa Javier) posted an 8-2 victory at third doubles.

The Warriors are back in action tomorrow against Tiffin. Due to inclement weather in the forecast for tomorrow morning, the match will be played at PeachTree Tennis Club in Clinton Twp. with a 12:30 PM start time.
