DETROIT -- Junior Darrin Driesenga dove his way into Wayne State University lore on Friday night and helped lead the Warriors to a 121-45 victory over the University of Findlay in the process.

On senior night at the Matthaei, Driesenga (Holland, Mich. / West Ottawa) established a new WSU varsity record in the 1-meter diving event, finishing with a score of 339.97. He topped Cayce Bolt's 2009 WSU record of 339.50.

WSU had several other strong individual performances on the evening. Junior Kristian Larsen (Frederiksberg, Denmark) and senior Joaquin Abascal Gallegos (Madrid, Spain) each earned two individual victories. Larsen won the 200 freestyle (1:45.03) and 500 freestyle (4:47.83), while Abascal Gallegos earned wins in the 200 IM (1:58.75) and 100 breaststroke (58.99).

Seniors Cameron Weaver (Davison, Mich. / Davison) and Nathan Hesche (Jackson, Mich. / Jackson) each earned individual wins. Weaver won the 1000 freestyle in a time of 9:48.70, while Hesche earned a victory in the 100 butterfly in a time of 51.62.

Sophomore Piotr Jachowicz (Lodz, Poland) won the 50 freestyle in a time of 20.62, sophomore Lucas Fernandez Vilanova (Valencia, Spain) picked up the win in the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.70 and freshman Jayson Hansen (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Grand Blanc) touched the wall first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.92.

Sophomore diver Dylan Szegedi (Oregon, Ohio / St. Francis de Sales) placed second to Driesenga's record-setting performance in the 1-meter event (329.77), but had the top point total in the 3-meter competition, finishing with 328.80 points. Senior Jeff Grant (Belleville, Mich. / Belleville) finished in second in the 3-meter event with 326.92 points. Grant also recorded a season-best score in the 1-meter competition (298.88).

WSU touched the wall first in both relay events. The quartet of Larsen, Fernandez Vilanova, Ben Winn (Washington, Mich. / Romeo) and Eric Gensheimer (Farmington, Mich. / Farmington) finished first in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:27.85. The squad of Fernandez Vilanova, Jachowicz, Hesche and Winn also finished out in front in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:33.89.

WSU returns to the pool on Saturday, visiting Grand Valley for a dual meet with the Lakers.
