Women's Tennis Tops Walsh 7-2 For 10th Straight Win

The Warriors improve to 12-1 overall and in the GLIAC

-- The Wayne State University women's tennis team earned its 10th straight victory Saturday and stayed undefeated at home this season, defeating Walsh University 7-2. With the victory, the Warriors improved to 12-1 overall and in the GLIAC.

WSU is 6-0 at home. Wayne State took a 3-0 lead after doubles play to get off to a strong start against a Walsh team that is 9-4 in conference play.

Juniors Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Que. / École Secondaire Félix-Leclerc) and Yahsha Moore (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) improved to 11-1 in GLIAC play at the top flight in doubles, earning an 8-3 victory.

Sophomores Alex Poissant (Laval, Que. / Vanier Prep) and Anastasia Burobina (Toronto, Ont. / Robert Bateman) combined for an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles to improve to 9-3 as a team in conference play this season.

Sophomore Julia Kamenko (Thornhill, Ont. / Vaughan S.S.) and freshman Lauren Hughes (Detroit, Mich. / Southfield) teamed up for the first time, winning 8-3 at the third flight in doubles.

WSU went up went up 7-1 in singles play before Walsh captured the final match at No. 5 singles. Moore dropped just three games to win at the top flight in singles, 6-2, 6-1. She is 11-2 in conference singles play, all at the No. 1 spot.

Burobina won at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-3, while Briand earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles for the Warriors. Hughes earned two victories for the second straight day, posting a 1-6, 6-3, 10-4 win at the sixth flight.

Wayne State concludes its GLIAC regular season schedule Sunday against Lake Erie College at home. The match is set to start at 10 a.m.
