ROCHESTER, Mich.
-- The Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team competed in the first of two weekend meets Friday, falling 171-122 to Oakland University at the OU Aquatic Center.

Junior diver Dylan Szegedi (Oregon, Ohio / St. Francis de Sales) won both the one-meter and three-meter diving competitions Friday. He had a score of 286.35 in the one-meter competition and a score of 299.85 on the three-meter board. Szegedi has already surpassed NCAA qualifying standards on both boards early in the season.

Sophomore Jayson Hansen (Grand Blanc, Mich.) finished second in both the 50 breaststroke (27.15) and 100 breaststroke (59.89) for the Warriors.

Freshman Soren Holm (Rodovre, Denmark) took second in the 50 butterfly (23.48) and 50 backstroke (24.37) for Wayne State. Freshman Till Barthel (Hannover, Germany) placed second in the 50 freestyle, earning a time of 21.43.

Junior Lucas Fernandez Vilanova (Valencia, Spain) placed third in the 50 backstroke with a time of 24.92. He also touched the wall in third in the 100 backstroke (52.81).

Senior Calvin Reder (Bay City, Mich. / John Glenn) was third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 53.50. Junior Kyle Taylor (Holland, Mich.) also earned a third-place finish, posting a time of 4:59.07 in the 500 freestyle. Senior Jordan Papp (Dearborn, Mich. / Edsel Ford) was the top Wayne State finisher in the 1000 freestyle, touching the wall in 10:17.08.

Sophomore Kris Hector (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica Eisenhower) finished just behind Papp in the 1000 freestyle (10:17.43), and placed fifth in the 500 freestyle (4:59.38).

The WSU 200 medley relay team of Fernandez Vilanova, Barthel, Holm and freshman Josh Schacht (Schoolcraft, Mich. / Mattawan) turned in a time of 1:35.32 to earn third place.

The Warriors return to the pool Saturday for its first home meet of the season, hosting Ashland University at 1 p.m. inside the Matthaei.
