DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's swimming and diving squad earned a 165-117 victory over Ashland University on Saturday in the Warriors first home meet of the season. WSU was competing in its second meet in as many days.
Wayne State won 12 of the 16 women's events, includng both relays. Senior
Kayla Scott (Rochester, Mich. / Adams) earned two individual victories and swam a leg in both relay wins for Wayne State.
Scott won the 100 breaststroke by more than two seconds, finishing with a time of 1:06.64. Scott also was victorious in the 100 butterfly (1:00.95).
Sophomore
Mallory Moore (West Bloomfield, Mich.) earned the win in the 1000 freestyle, posting a time of 11:02.30.
Sophomore
Elly Maleski (Cedar, Mich. / Traverse City West) won the 100 backstroke (58.34), while junior
Kei Cze Prentis (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica Eisenhower) earned a runner-up finish (59.66) in the same event.
Senior
Kelsey Dischler (Macomb, Mich. / Henry Ford II) won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:15.57. Freshman
Emily Maraskine (Midland, Mich. / Dow) touched the wall first in the 50 freestyle, recording a time of 24.91.
Senior
Paige Kortman (Holland, Mich.) finished first on the one-meter board, recording a score of 280.60. She finished second (256.55) to freshman teammate
Elizabeth Rawlings (Armada, Mich. / Romeo) on the three-meter board, who won the event with a score of 272.95. Rawlings had a score of 274.30 on the one-meter platform. Both divers have earned NCAA qualifying standards on both boards so far this season.
Senior
Carol Azambuja posted a time of 2:11.61 to win the 200 individual medley for Wayne State. She finished second in both the 200 freestyle (1:57.38) and 200 backstroke (2:10.38).
Junior
Marissa Swartz (Washington, Mich. / Romeo) led four Wayne State swimmers to the wall in the 500 freestyle. Swartz won the event with a time of 5:22.83, while Dischler placed second (5:24.66), senior
Alycen Wiacek (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester) followed in third (5:27.26) and Moore took fourth (5:34.43).
The 400 medley quartet of Maleski, sophomore
Hannah Loesch (Harbor Springs, Mich.), Scott and Azambuja recorded a time of 4:01.41 to win the event to open the meet. The WSU team of freshman
Emily Heitchue (Royal Oak, Mich.), Maraskine, Maleski and Scott placed first in the 400 freestyle relay (3:38.87) to close out the meet in winning fashion for Wayne State.
The Warriors return to the pool competitively on Dec. 6-7 at the Eastern Michigan Invitational in Ypsilanti.
