GRAND VALLEY STORYLINES
The Warriors (3-6, 3-5 GLIAC) will look to snap a four-game losing streak Saturday in their home finale against Grand Valley (7-2, 5-2 GLIAC).  The Warriors are 3-1 at home this season.  WSU's only loss at home came in a 14-10 setback to #28-Saginaw Valley on Oct. 19.
    
The Lakers are third in the GLIAC North Division with a 5-2 record.  The Warriors, with a 3-5 league mark, are tied with Northern Michigan for sixth place.  WSU has one game remaining in the 2013 regular season following Saturday's clash against GVSU, traveling to the Upper Peninsula for the second time this season for a meeting with Michigan Tech on Nov. 16.
    
Saturday is also Wayne State's Salute to Armed Forces Day.  WSU will honor military personnel, who get in free either in uniform or with a valid ID.  Family members of military personnel receive an adult ticket for $5 and a children's ticket for $3.

QUICK HITS
Wayne State held Ferris State quarterback Jason Vander Laan to his lowest single-game rushing output this season.  Vander Laan, who averages 133.6 rush yards per game, had just 40 yards on 12 carries and no TD's.
    
Junior running back Desmond Martin cleared the 1,000-rushing yard plateau during his 49-yard rushing effort at Ferris State.  He is the 25th Warrior to reach 1,000 career rushing yards.
    
Wayne State is third in the GLIAC in passing defense (190.7 ypg) and fourth in the conference in total defense.  WSU allows just 369.9 total yards per contest.
    
The Warriors are 3-1 at home this season.  WSU's only loss came to GLIAC unbeaten Saginaw Valley, 14-10.

THE SERIES
The Warriors are 5-29 in the all-time series against Grand Valley that began in 1975.  Wayne State's last win against GVSU was a 30-3 victory in Allendale on Nov. 10, 1984.  The Warriors are 3-13 at home vs. GVSU.  In the last matchup in Detroit, Grand Valley, ranked No. 1 at the time, earned a 24-10 win over the Warriors on Nov. 8, 2008, in front of 5,152 at Tom Adams Field.

ON THE HEADSET
Paul Winters is in his 10th season as head coach of the Wayne State football program.  He has a 56-54 record in his Warrior tenure, including a 43-25 mark in his last five-plus seasons.  In the 2013 season opener against Carson-Newman, Winters became the all-time leader in Wayne State football history in games coached, which now stands at 110.
    
Grand Valley's Matt Mitchell has a 34-10 record in his fourth season as the football coach of the Lakers.  He set the record for victories in his first season as head coach (11) in 2010.  He has been a part of the GVSU staff for 10 seasons overall.

SCOUTING GRAND VALLEY
The Lakers enter their game with Wayne State on a three-game win streak.  Grand Valley most recently defeated Hillsdale College 31-21 last Saturday at home.  The Lakers have scored the fourth-most points in the GLIAC with 251 and are currently in third place in the GLIAC North Division standings with a 5-2 conference record.
    
Junior running back Michael Ratay is fifth in the GLIAC in rushing yardage with 1,012 yards.  He also has 16 rushing touchdowns and is tied for second on GVSU with 26 receptions.  Fellow junior running back Chris Robinson has 448 rushing yards and four scores for the Lakers.
    
Junior quarterbacks Isiah Grimes and Heath Parling have combined to throw for over 2,000 yards this season.  Grimes has thrown for 1,228 yards and seven touchdowns in six games, while Parling has accumulated 948 yards and nine touchdowns in four contests.
    
Senior Brandan Green leads Grand Valley with 32 catches for 814 yards (25.4 yards per catch) and has also caught three touchdowns.  Sophomore receiver Jamie Potts has 26 receptions for 435 yards and five touchdowns.
    
Freshman kicker Joel Schipper has connected on all seven field goals this season and converted 41-of-42 extra point attempts.
    
Senior linebacker Jordan Kaufman leads GVSU with 62 total tackles.  Junior defensive lineman Matt Mosley leads the squad with 10.5 tackles for loss and seven quarterback hurries, while sophomore defensive end and two-time GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week DeOndre Hogan has 5.5 sacks and 8.0 tackles for loss.
    
Senior safety Erik Thompson and junior cornerback DeVonte Jones each have three interceptions to lead the Lakers.

IN THE POLLS
Undefeated Ohio Dominican moved into the top 10 and earned a No. 9 ranking in the most recent 2013 American Football Coaches Association Coaches' Poll, which was released Monday.  Saginaw Valley, with an 8-1 mark overall and 8-0 record in the GLIAC, has a No. 19 ranking in the poll and Ferris State received three votes in the poll.

NATIONAL RANKINGS
Wayne State is fourth in the nation in fewest penalties, committing just 3.56 per game.  The Warriors are 25th in the country in passing defense, allowing 190.7 yards per contest.
    
Stefan Terleckyj is 10th in the country in punting average (43.2 yards per punt), while Ed Viverette is tied for 18th in the nation at 0.9 sacks per game.

PRIVETT NAMED SEMIFINALIST FOR NFF NATIONAL SCHOLAR-ATHLETE AWARD
Chet Privett was selected on Oct. 2 as one of the 170 semifinalists for the 2013 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Awards and the 2013 William V. Campbell Trophy, which recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation.
    
Privett was one of 24 Division II student-athletes named as a candidate. Each nominee must be in the final year of elgibility, have demonstrated strong leadership qualities on and off the field, have a GPA of 3.2 or better on a 4.0 scale and have outstanding football ability, among other qualifications.
    
A co-captain in 2013, Privett is a three-time GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team selection (2011-12-13) along with being named to the GLIAC Honorable Mention team in 2011. He has played in 43 games in his Warrior career, making 39 career starts.
    
Sixteen college football student-athletes were selected as finalists for the award.  Quarterbacks Trevor Adams (Northwest Missouri State) and Dustin Vaughan (West Texas A&M) were the only two finalists selected from Division II.

TERLECKYJ EARNS MONTHLY FRED MITCHELL AWARDS
Stefan Terleckyj was honored on Oct. 29 as one of 35 place-kickers for his excellence in the community and on the playing field during October.  He was one of 23 seniors and just one of nine Division II kickers selected for the October monthly award.
    
He was also one of 26 student-athletes recognized on Oct. 1 as the Fred Mitchell Award honored 26 collegiate place-kickers for their excellence on and off the football field during the month of September.
    
Terleckyj was one of 18 seniors selected and just one of seven Division II place-kickers bestowed with the monthly accolade.
    
The annual Fred Mitchell Outstanding Place-Kicker Award (also known as the Fred Mitchell Award) is provided to the nation's top collegiate place-kicker among more than 750 FCS, Division II, Division III, NAIA and NJCAA football teams. The recipient of the award is chosen based on excellence on the football field and in the community.
    
Terleckyj is second on the team in scoring with 43 points from 6 of 8 field goals and 25 of 26 extra points in 2013. He is a 2012 Fred Mitchell Award Finalist, who owns the school record for the most kicking points (281), which is also third in school history.

VIVERETTE EARNS NATIONAL RECOGNITION
Along with being named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week following his performance against Ashland, senior linebacker Ed Viverette was selected as the D2football.com National Defensive Player of the Week.  Viverette totaled nine tackles, 3.5 sacks, a forced fumble and he returned a fumble 42 yards for WSU's first defensive touchdown of the season.
    
The last Warrior to be honored with a national player of the week accolade was safety Jeremy Jones, who was also selected as the D2football.com National Defensive Player of the Week following a 27-10 win over Michigan Tech on Sept. 17, 2011.

COMCAST XFINITY
All five of WSU's home games will be broadcast on Comcast Channel 900.  The broadcast team of Ryan Ermanni (play-by-play), Rod Beard (color) and Joe Abramson (sideline) will have the call from Tom Adams Field.  Each home Saturday telecast will be replayed at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, 8 p.m. on Wednesday and 9 a.m. on Thursday the week following the live broadcast.

All Wayne State football games can be heard on WDTK Radio (1400 AM/92.7 FM).  Fans can listen to the games online at wdtkam.com or watch the home games via Warrior All-Access for a $5.95 per game fee.  Sean Baligian and former WSU running back Josh Renel will handle the call in the booth, while Lisa Seymour will handle the sideline reporting for each contest.
